CLEVELAND - About 80 Cleveland police officers from all over the city fanned out across the second district Tuesday night in a show of force against crime.According to Commander Keith Sulzer, the mild weather this winter has contributed to an increase in crime. "Not anything to be too alarmed about," he said. "But there's been an increase and we're going to address it with what we have, as much as we can."The officers spread out into seven west side neighborhoods, including Ohio City, where there have been a lot of car break-ins recently.
"The message is violence is not going to be tolerated," Sulzer said.
Others were looking for quality of life issues, like open containers and loud music. Still others were searching for violent fugitives, like Gregory Maddox, who's wanted for shooting a 16-year-old with a shotgun on West 38th Street on March 8.
Maddox, 20, of Cleveland, is 5 foot 9 and weighs 160 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call the Cleveland Division of Police Second District Vice Unit at 216-623-2719.
