You know what they say about a "new mouse trap"...that there is always a new wrinkle, and a new way to make an improvement.
When we discuss Daedalus had Icarus [1] our discussion always assumes that their flight was mythical – just allegorical - but I believe it might have been actual flight. How do we know what genius and clever design and ingenious materials might have existed 2000 years ago?
Today’s strong and lightweight rip-stop nylon – perfect for huge parasails [2] – makes flight a reality for hang gliders [3] and even for solar or pedal powered ultra lights [4] – and makes crossing water as fast as it would be behind a ski nautique [5]….
Never think of design or machine as mature or finished. Even the wheel will see improvement.
