September 19, 2008 - PARK(ing) Day Conceived by REBAR, a San Francisco-based art collective, PARK(ing) Day is a one-day, global event centered in San Francisco where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks. Here are the stats rom 2007: more than 200 PARKs in over 50 cities worldwide, including: - 58 PARKs in San Francisco, including 5 Sidewalk Plazas by Public Architecture. PARKs in major cities, including Washington DC, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, St. Paul, Boston, Austin, Salt Lake City, Tampa, Miami, London, Bremen, Utrecht, Barcelona, Valencia, Munich, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte (Brazil), Toronto, Melbourne, Brisbane (Australia) and Vilnius (Lithuania).
