Dear Mr. Buster,
Most of the important magazines and newspapers have humor and comics in them.
Some believe that it helps to provide some variety to their readers.

Reminded me of the cartoon above that I was telling a friend about the other day...
We were talking about "Peak Oil" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil , our society's addiction to oil, and the Hydrogen economy that is coming, sooner or later. (Yea, more of the "Doom & Gloom" stuff...)
I saw this at a meeting of the Akron Roundtable where Stanford Ovshinsky http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_R._Ovshinsky was presenting a talk on his work on materials and products that his company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Conversion_Devices_Ovonics is working on that, he feels, will become important parts of the Hydrogen Economy...
It seemed to be an appropriate way to view our current problems in an historical perspective...
