lmcshane's blogSING, sing a SONGSubmitted by lmcshane on Sun, 01/13/2008 - 05:55.
It cracks me up to see kids come in to the library to sing! They plug in the headphones and start grooving to a tune on line and the next thing you know I have to go into shhhh! mode. ( categories: )
NeighborsSubmitted by lmcshane on Fri, 01/11/2008 - 20:03.
We all need neighbors. They help us out in times of need. They also drive us crazy. What to do? Tomorrow is another day. Let's hope it heals the unnecessary rifts that divide. ( categories: )
Ted Diadiun and Plain Dealer RacismSubmitted by lmcshane on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 20:31.
Ted--I just want to let you know that I called and I suspect many others called after Dick Feagler's Sunday column to cancel their subscription to the PD. Here is Dick Feagler's logic in a nutshell: if you see a black person, run away. He calls it realism. I call it racism.

What would Jane do?Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 23:39.
See this face. Is it hard to believe that this woman took on the establishment in New York and forced planners to consider the human element in the design of cities?

The music industry in ClevelandSubmitted by lmcshane on Wed, 12/19/2007 - 20:50.
I've known enough musicians in my lifetime to know that recognition is important. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is located here. Does that mean anything at all?

What's the state of publishing in Cleveland?Submitted by lmcshane on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 10:07.
We know that Cleveland does not lead the country among U.S. cities for new business creation. But, how many Clevelanders work for publishers based in other cities? Do "our" writers, designers, and illustrators pull the heavy writing and creative process for other cities?

Bedford, Ohio--It's a Wonderful LifeSubmitted by lmcshane on Sat, 12/08/2007 - 00:34.
In my twenties, I worked for the Cleveland Metroparks and I did not own a car. I rode the bus places and I walked and walked, or rode my bike. One of the places I loved to visit was Bedford, Ohio.

I just got back from hearing Sherman Alexie speak at the Cleveland Public Library. My sides hurt from laughing so much and, yet, at the same time, I want to cry. His voice is true and his message needs to be heard.

Mind of ClevelandSubmitted by lmcshane on Fri, 11/09/2007 - 15:08.
Carl Pope believes we are living in a time in which individuals and small groups can exert tremendous influence on the world. His artistic practice is rooted in a belief that outer change is born within the imagination, inspiring the individual to become a catalyst to effect transformation in the world. The goal of “The Mind of Cleveland” is to inspire civic pride and cooperation during this critical point in the city’s history. Now seems to be the perfect time to pose these questions.
