Microsoft HQ raises Gates tantrum alert from "guarded" to "elevated":
There was only one way Microsoft could undermine its dominance among Web
browsers, and wouldn't you know it, those clever folks up in Redmond seem to
have come up with it: Allow an endless parade of security vulnerabilities to
scare users off. Certainly that seems to what's happening these days as more
folks dump Microsoft Internet Explorer for the Mozilla Foundation's Firefox
browser. OneStat.com, a provider of Web traffic measurement services, reports
that Firefox
has whittled Microsoft's still commanding lead in the browser market down to
88.9 percent
. "It seems that people are switching from Microsoft's Internet
Explorer to Mozilla's new Firefox browser," said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of
OneStat.com. "The total usage share of Microsoft declined 5 percent and the
total usage share of Mozilla increased 5 percent."
