“Battery Park” is a multi square block development on West 72 south of the CSX tracks just on the bluff above Edgewater park and the Shoreway.
Right next to Battery Park is the old Detroit neighborhood where there are numerous vacant houses.

NEW STREET SIGN – WHAT’S THE MESSAGE? (“anecdote” 2 for J. Murray)Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 10/25/2007 - 14:48.
Last week when I walked by the post in the photo above there was a street sign on the post. Today the sign is gone and the two bolts which had fastened the sign to the post are laying in the grass at the base of the post.

Help Wanted at 1894 Roxbury: appraiser for historic urban homeSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 10/25/2007 - 14:23.
Star Neighborhood Development is rapidly nearing completion of the first phase of historic renovation and greening of "the finest house on Roxbury" - interior above - a wonderfully designed and constructed, classic 3,000+ square-foot 1906 American Tudor home, in a transitional urban historic neighborhood of East Cleveland, a transitional city bordering dynamic University Circle and Cleveland Heights.
Follow The Money... who decides which brownfields are cleaned?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 10/24/2007 - 20:47.
There are many big industrial sites around Cleveland I pass regularly - some are active brownfields, like the Flats, and some are abandoned. Some feature Cleveland Landbank signs and are in stages of redevelopment... the one featured here is on the West Side of Cleveland, at Bishop Road and Madison, by W. 117, and the city has clearly spent $millions clearing up this huge property of many acres.

REALNEO headers coming back to lifeSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 23:18.
Jeff Buster has surfaced as a bright new light in NEO photojournalism and graphic design, so it looks like the top few inches of REALNEO are going to be as interesting as the rest of the content again, going forward - anyone else who wants to offer a header image, contact Jeff Buster on REALNEO. Jeff Buster has outdone himself with today's REALNEO header... and the logo does look better 100 feet wide... I had already put together an image I want to share... so here's a subheader for today....

VISCERAL BUSINESSES - THE GUTS OF OUR ECONOMYSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 21:20.
So when I walked by Joe, at the door taking a breather, asked..."you from Boston?" Well, I had visited Boston (and I had spaced that the Indians were up against them just then) - so I thought the guy was able to see into the future. Stable on my feet, I walked into the All State Barber College, and l felt that HERE was the healthy, real economic future.

My MasumiSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 10/21/2007 - 12:54.
Could it be just over a year since Masumi Hayashi and John Jackson were killed by a senseless psycho ...? As the senseless killing escalates all around NEO today, it is easy for the dead to become forgotten by so many they touched in many ways, in life... or lost to all. Where NEO has seen a community that remembers is those who love the arts, as the past year has seen many shows of love and respect for Masumi and John, the most recent being a wonderful exhibition that opened last week at Doubting Thomas Gallery, called To Masumi. A collection of special works by many who love and remember Masumi, this is a powerful statement on what lasts and matters in life and beyond. Props to the organizers of this exhibition and to Doubting Thomas - really fantastic... amazing musicians performing in the front Gallery, Michael Doc Dreyfuss and Bill Weita... haunting yet alive... see today's header... image below...
Incentive-based RecyclingSubmitted by lmcshane on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 15:28.
The City of Cleveland has reimplemented curbside recycling. I want it to work. It should work, but we also need to consider incentives. Philadelphia has the right idea.

Frankencar?Submitted by Charles Frost on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 07:49.
This thing better have a regenerative-braking powered mini-fridge. In what has to be one of the weirdest looking things to come out of Canada since our very own Lloyd (j/k Lloyd!), an enterprising Canuck has taken two Priuses, welded them together, and made either what has to be the greenest limo in the world or the most gas-guzzling Prius - depending on how you look at it. However, the Canadian inventor/mad scientist says the car still gets 50mpg even with the added weight. We don't know if that is before or after the limo reaches its 10 seat capacity, but it sure beats the heck out of those hideous Hummer limo monstrosities.

SEPARATE SPORT AND STATESubmitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 10/19/2007 - 15:45.
Regarding the "Red Socks Out to Dry" banner: I realize there are many in the Realneo audience who despise the toothy grinning Indian logo (and see it as a racist caricature). The DDealer came out with an editorial along this line recently - but I couldn't find a link.

ANN ARBOR PROMULGATES TIERED STORMWATER TAXSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 10/19/2007 - 15:19.
Ann Arbor, Michigan has instituted a smart tiered method of taxing residential and commercial properties for storm water costs – the more impervious surface you have on your property, the more storm water abatement tax you pay. Check it out Here

CLEVELAND MIRAGESubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 23:13.
I walked out on the Lorain Street Bridge with one photo in mind (red socks hanging out to dry - I’ll get that photo blogged tomorrow) - and then up the bridge slope comes a fellow with no legs powering his wheel chair with his arms. The afternoon was warm and the sun intensely bright. I began to get a head ache behind my right eye. Cleveland’s central city rose starkly over a Vermont like grove of golding trees.

BEGGARS IN CLEVELAND?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 12:03.
There's a new sidewalk sign in Public Square (and elsewhere downtown). Another sign that our society is dismantling itself into them and us.
