Saturday the kids and I picked our own apples at the Patterson Fruit Farm in Chesterland. It was a beautiful day and a really fun experience. Apple picking is a great way to enjoy Fall. Apparently it is a very popular Fall activity too because Patterson's was packed. Waiting in the line of cars turning into the parking lot reminded me of going to Cedar Point.

Picking apples is hard work, especially if you are only two years old. Good thing there was a wagon ride back to the orchard, it helped save some of our energy for picking. We did not leave with two bushels as I had planned but we were quite pleased with the eleven pounds of apples we gathered. Trees seemed to be pruned to accommodate shorter apple pickers so even a toddler could participate. The price and the selection was great. I think we paid $.95 a pound. We picked Golden Delicious, Ida Red, Courtland, Empire and Jonagold. The apples we picked definitely tasted fresher that anything I have bought in the grocery store.

Patterson's has more than just apples; there are pumpkins of all sizes, gourds, freshly pressed apple cider and fresh homemade bakery. The apple cider glazed donuts were the best donuts we had ever tasted.
