Robert W. Briggs - Chairman of Fund for Our Economic Future and Chairman Emeritus, Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs
Rob
Briggs, a Knight Foundation trustee and vice chair, will speak about
The Fund for Our Economic Future, an unprecedented collaboration of
nearly 70 philanthropic organizations focused on encouraging and
advancing an agenda for regional economic transformation using three
strategies.
The three strategies are: public engagement, an 18-month initiative
designed to engage tens of thousands of citizens in developing an
agenda to revitalize the economy and to educate hundreds of thousands
more about the stunning number of leverageable assets in Northeast Ohio
and the challenges we face; grantmaking, a relatively narrow agenda of
no more than eight to 15 initiatives focused directly on economic
development; and research, an economic "dashboard" to identify key
indicators of economic and social growth and track the region's
progress.
Briggs also serves as a trustee of the Cleveland Orchestra,
the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation and the Northeast Ohio
Technology Coalition. He is trustee and board chair of the National
Inventors Hall of Fame, and co-trustee and executive director of the
GAR Foundation.
Among the honors Briggs has received for his work are the
Distinguished Service Award from the Akron Community Foundation, the
Hope Award from the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis
Society, the Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Akron, and
the Community Service Award from the Great Trail Council of the Boy
Scouts and the Northwest Summit County Rotary.
Briggs received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University and his law degree from Ohio State University’s College of Law.
