The YMCA of Greater Cleveland is once again challenging the people of Cleveland to have a healthier new year.  All Cleveland area residents are invited to participate in the fourth annual Get Fit Cleveland Challenge, which kicks off at Tower City Center on Friday Dec. 30.  The Get Fit Cleveland Challenge is the YMCA’s initiative to motivate families and individuals to start and continue a fitness program to improve health and wellness. At the core of the Get Fit Cleveland Challenge is the Y Personal Fitness Program, a 12-week exercise plan designed to help participants develop a regular exercise routine. 

The kick-off event will include FREE:

§   Fitness demonstrations featuring classes offered at the YMCA such as RAPS™, a class designed to improve posture and flexibility through rhythmic movements, Group Cycling, Boot Camp and Pilates

§   Performances by the YMCA’s PACE Tumbling, Hip Hop Dance and Ballet programs

§   Health screenings by Kaiser Permanente including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose checks, and stroke risk assessments. 

§   Information on Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital’s new Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight program

§   Body fat analysis

§   Presentations by Weight Watchers representatives on ways to keep your weight-loss resolution in 2006

§   Information on exercise and wellness programs for individuals with arthritis

§   One-day passes to any YMCA of Greater Cleveland branch

§   Information on programs and memberships at any of the 10 YMCA branches

§   A “Quest for Total Health and Wellness” scavenger hunt with participating Tower City Center retailers

§   Discounts at many Tower City Center retailers

As an added bonus during the Get Fit Cleveland Challenge, families and individuals that register for membership at the YMCA through Jan. 31 will receive 50 percent off the fee to join.
