RiverDay 2006 Events

The Friends of the Crooked River has announced an exciting line-up of events for the 16th Annual RiverDay celebration to be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006. First held in 1991, RiverDay is a day long festival of activities celebrating the Cuyahoga River and its watershed. Join the celebration of the Cuyahoga River. This year's theme is “Bringing Down the Barriers- Opening the River, Hearts and Minds.”

RiverDay 2006 consists of eleven (11) events held in Cuyahoga, Summit, and Portage counties through which the Cuyahoga River flows. A complete listing of RiverDay events, times, and locations can be found at www.cuyahogariver.net

In Cuyahoga County, there will be a walking tour and speakers discussing the the future of Whiskey Island, a walking tour and bird watching at Dike 14, and an informational walking tour of Big Creek.

In Summit County, there will be a cleanup and invasive species removal at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, an informational gathering at Gorge Park concerning the hydro-electric project, a guided tour of Cascade Locks, a cleanup of Adam's Run, and a hike showing the dam removal at Munroe Falls.

In Portage County, Kent will be celebrating its bicentennial with a variety of activities by the river, and an open house with walking tours of the Kent Bog.

Friends of the Crooked River is a grassroots advocacy group for the Cuyahoga River. It was established in 1990 to organize a vocal constituency and to expand public awareness of the benefits of correcting and protecting the river's water quality and habitat.
