Mozilla Foundation is the non-profit organization that "owns" and develops theFirefox, Mozilla browsers, and the Thunderbird email client.

The success of Firefox has been credited with forcing Microsoft to restart actually developing Internet Explorer for which no new development had been done since 2001 or so. Firefox 1.0 was released last November(2004) and has been downloaded at least one-hundred million times, according to Spreadfirefox.com.
