If you have been feeling starved for art lately you should find the last half of January very satisfying. Major exhibitions are opening this Friday at MOCA, Spaces and the e.gordon Gallery.

"All Digital" at MOCA features the work of 8 international artists (one of them, Lynn Hershman Leeson, was born in Cleveland and got her B.A. at Case) who create computer generated art. 

"The Persistence of Conscience" at Spaces is a retrospective of NEO artist Lilian Tyrrell's textiles and drawing. Her works confront the viewer with social and political issues.

e.gordon Gallery features the drawings of Peter Mollenkof, an artist, art historian and art critic who has spent much time in Tokoyo, Japan. His subjects, inspired from nature, hover unnaturally in ambiguous colorful spaces.

This Friday at noon The City Club of Cleveland is hosting John Carey, author of the controvesial book "What Good are the Arts." Perhaps his discussion can inspire Clevelanders with new ways to integrate the arts and NEO culture and economy.

Next Friday the Cleveland Institute of Art hosts its first reception and exhibition in the new Future Center for Design and Technology Transfer. The exhibit features the design work of recent CIA graduates.

Also next weekend (Friday through Sunday the National Ballet of Canada will be performing Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird and The Four Seasons at Playhouse Square.

Now that the holidays are over you have no excuses. Get out and support the arts!
