Learning to Look at the Networks in New WaysSubmitted by Betsey Merkel on Sat, 02/18/2006 - 14:00.
Thank you for the comments and insights. All maps should be considered open community contributions and resources. We can post Maps with Names every week. Let us know what would be most valuable to you. If you have questions, contact myself (betseymerkel [at] aol [dot] com) or Dennis Coughlin (denniscoughlin [at] i-open [dot] org) for a copy. We can map the networks from multiple perspectives: individual names, increase in numbers and quality of networks. This week's Midtown Innovation Zone Network Map is just one more visual perspective on relationships. Your points are helpful to establish simple rules for how we map. Your guidance on what information to map will make network mapping most effective. Please post/email your suggestions. If you think it would be valuable, we can put together an information session about I-Open's experience mapping networks. Be sure to read the Business Week article about Network Mapping with an interview of Valdis Krebs, InFlow, here. On March 27 & 28, Valdis Krebs, June Holley, Jack Ricchiuto and Ed Morrison will be leading curriculum on new practices in economic development at Baldwin Wallace College. We will post registration information soon.

Why are people connected?
What might help is info on what the exact connection between people. Why are they connected? Doesn't have to be detailed, but just a bit of info so people can see why certain people are connected. In short, what is the bond between people that keeps them connected.
Sincerely,

Betsey offered to arrange a session on mapping
Betsey sent over an email that she can arrange an I-Open session on mapping. I'm interested and it seems plenty of other people are too. I'm guessing around 6 weeks out. What would people like to get out of this?
