Last Weekend for ALL DIGITAL at MOCA

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Thu, 05/04/2006 - 13:44.

There are only a few days left to see All Digital, one the most visually interesting and intellectually challenging exhibitions at MOCA Cleveland in recent memory. The show closes Sunday May 7th. If you were there for the opening make sure you make a second visit to experience CyberLounge and the ArtCasts. What are ArtCasts? They are digital recordings (think Podcasts) of interviews with the artists who participated in All Digital. They can be heard via your iPod, or, if you don't have an iPod, MOCA will loan you one in exchange for your id and a credit card.

Viktor Schreckengost showed enormous talent while a student at The Cleveland Institute of Art (then the Cleveland School of Art). His figure drawing and design renderings from the 1920s are stunning examples of his sensitive approach to form. Viktor never forgot the power of observation; he perfected it in the industrial design products that followed his post-college years.

"No Umbrella" Screening at City Hall

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Mon, 03/27/2006 - 23:30.

The Cleveland Film Festival screening of Laura Paglin's documentary "No Umbrella -- Election Day" quickly  sold out, but those who were n't able to get tickets got another chance in the rotunda of City Hall on Monday night. Free and open to the public, the film played at 6 p.m., before a city council meeting. About 100 people were there. Paglin is a local director who has been getting a lot of attention lately. The subject of her short documentary, which recently played at Sundance, is an election day fiasco in ward 7, that took place last November. The "star" of the film is councilwoman Fannie Lewis, who fought heroically  for her constituents right to vote that day, when the board of elections failed to provide enough workers and ballots at one poling station.
