RealNEO HeaderArtist for all Time: Clarence E. Van Duzer, Rest In PeaceSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 01/31/2009 - 01:22.
I was very saddened to learn today we lost a great artist, loved friend and family to many, and inspirational Clevelander with the passing of Clarence E. Van Duzer. I knew Van Duzer as a family friend and always was inspired and energized by talking with him, his work, and his approach to life. At our last meeting, at his Convivium opening, in 2006, he was so strong and clear it seemed he would live on forever.

These paired signs are attached to a brick apartment building on E 155 directly opposite the Shore Bank headquarters. I thought they were pretty frank. Obviously necessary in Cleveland.

LUCKY'S CAFE - CLEVELAND'S WEST SIDESubmitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 01/29/2009 - 20:12.
Lucky's Cafe is on the West Side of Cleveland right down the street from the Onion Domed church. Maurice Small has a very nice garden in the summer patio next to Lucky's. Across the street during warm weather is a local farmer's market. These type of proprietor owned/operated establishments are vital to healthy neighborhoods.

Kuzzo's - No Blunts allowedSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 01/29/2009 - 16:11.
As I recall, Kuzzo's was down around 40th on St Clair. It had closed up for good when I looked at the menu on the front window last year. But I thought that both their menu and their house "rules" were worth recording.

CLEVELAND BRANDING CAMPAIGN OR NOT?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 01/27/2009 - 16:10.
I think HEK went to trial in January 09. However, I was unable to attend. This work is on the RR overpass over E42 or E41st near St Clair. Would you rather see this or an expensive Cleveland+ banner touting "We've Got It All Together"?

Oyster Fungus (pleurotus ostreatus) This Realneo banner is a close up (the ribs/gills in the photo actually scale i about 4 inches long) photo of the underside “gills” of what I believe is an Oyster Fungus (pleurotus ostreatus). The fungus grew on

Please email me with the two letters of the element in the periodic table which is responsible for the window sashes hanging from one corner. Or, explain in detail how the element was used. First correct local analysis gets a six pack of Great Lakes beer.

EMPTY SEATS ALL YEARSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 01/01/2009 - 23:48.
Every day every taxpayer in Cuyahoga County buys a piece of every empty seat.
Of course, with our economy, we can afford it.

THE MESSAGE IS IN THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENTSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 12/31/2008 - 12:31.
In my travels around Cleveland and elsewhere I realized that one of the landscape features in which I am most interested are the “markings” made on the environment. I don’t have the articulate smell of a dog – nosing around for that intense spot where a prior dog had lifted their leg. Rather it is my eyes that are influenced by the nuanced messages scattered about. ( categories: )
Fairfax Park Mural Cleveland OhioSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 12/29/2008 - 19:35.
The neighborhood color ratio is right, but the mural is "sugared up". Although I see an up to date Ipod user, I don't see any up to date dew rags or hoodies. Maybe that's to accommodate the funding source...Frankly, reflecting on this mural and another new "dream" mural in the same neighborhood...I would have to say that these are hypocritical propaganda. For one reason, the expression would be "peace in da hood"...I will attempt to find out who funded the murals.

Life may be giving and fulfilling if you are receptive. Consider the tree-top-treeSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 12/25/2008 - 13:45.
We wanted a real tree for the holiday, this year, but Evelyn and I don't like the idea of growing and cutting down and then transporting and throwing away a tree just for that. The carbon footprint, any way you do it, just seems a waste.

Eternal Home of Ed Hauser, on REALNEO - a reader pointed out Ed died November 14, 2008 - 11 years agoSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 11/26/2008 - 10:59.
EDWARD J. "CITIZEN" HAUSER, beloved son of Walter and Theresia; dearest brother of Harold, Sylvia, Thomas, and Caroline Widemann (husband Reiner); dear uncle of Nicole and Erik; dear friend of Cathy Stahurski; dear nephew, cousin and friend to many. Ed Hauser died suddenly November 14, 2008. Northeast Ohio has lost its most ardent, studied and tenacious citizen activist.

Ed Hauser Memorial Header: Trisha's PlaceSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 11/23/2008 - 01:45.
There was a special time in my life when Ed and I worked together, developing REALNEO. We worked in the Caxton and spent lots of time at our favorite Cleveland cafe, AJ Rocco's, on the ground floor. AJs is also where Ed held the screening party for "Citizen Hauser", and it was one of the first places I went to connect with Ed's spirit, after he passed on. This is a memorial pan from the day after Ed died.

REALNEO fonts and colorsSubmitted by Jeff Schuler on Sat, 11/22/2008 - 23:07.
I've been messing around with some ideas for a favicon for REALNEO -- the little icon that shows up next to the URL in your browser, or when you bookmark the site, etc. Don't know about anyone else, but I'd really like to see REALNEO with its own icon instead of the standard Drupal raindrop. I haven't gotten far yet, but I do believe I've hunted down the two fonts used in the logo, (heretofore a mystery, as far as I can tell.) An old logo I found: {C}

RFP - Request For Partners in Redevelopment of Coventry Elementary School and PEACE ParkSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 15:54.
The October 30, 2008 Sun Press lead cover story article (strangely... not on-line) was: "New Uses For Coventry? Music School Settlement, day care, and charter school send letters of interest". This reported, "The Intergenerational School's proposal also listed several partners: Richard Fleischman Architects, of Cleveland, Star Neighborhood Development, of East Cleveland, Strategic Resource Consultants, of Cleveland Heights, and City Fresh Cafeteria, Fresh Stop and Market, of Cleveland". "Fleischman would serve as design architect, while Star Neighborhood Development and Strategic Resource Consultants would likely be development partners...". "That proposal would also include a 1.5 acre "Urban Farm"...". I submitted the proposal, a public document, highlighted below and attached as a PDF, and can say the Sun Press report is largely correct, but the story is far from complete, and far more exciting than the Sun brings to light.
