My summer reading this year included Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard. I highly recommend that NEO residents pick up the book before the RNC convention. So much has changed, but so much is the same. The "spoils system" especially threatens to derail our country - not to mention the seemingly never-ending racial divisiveness.

Norm Roulet created a community of interest to gain the attention of Peter B. Lewis. Norm saw Peter B. Lewis as the only prominent philanthropist in Cleveland, who could SEE through the bullshit and con artists in this town - and THINK to make positive change.
I have joined the hunger strike to Save John Marshall High School. I never attended this school, but I admire Satinder's dedication and I am fed up with the direction of the Cleveland School Board under mayoral control. Today is my second day of fasting.
SF Gate, home of the San Francisco Chronicle, May 23, 2012: The Iranian Navy is said to have rescued the U.S.-flagged US-flagged Maersk Texas, which was beseigned by several pirate ships in the GUlf of Oman, coming to its rescue after hearing its distress signal. The pirates fled as soon as they saw the warship appear.
The Maersk's corporate offices, however, denied it, saying the Iranian Navy was the first to respond after sending the distress signal but weren't helped by them, instead Iran's navy provided guidance to the crew of the Maersk Texas by radio.
There are so many great ironies in NEO--one is the School of Medicine at CWRU located immediately adjacent to the facilities plant that contributes to asthma, cancer and other chronic disease.
