Irish Eyes were smiling across downtown Cleveland for a beautiful St. Patrick's Day parade 2009... 67 in the shade! Please enjoy my favorite photos below, and from the annual St. Patrick's Day St. Baldrick's head shaving here...

In Too Many Ways, Real NEO Is Unreal For "Coloreds"

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 03/15/2009 - 08:09.

Racist sign in Cleveland Ohio

A buddy of mine – I'll call him DC - just had a rough couple of weeks. One of DC's friends had his house invaded by gunmen... another friend went ballistic and killed five family members, and himself... and DC was denied a job because he is “colored”. This last problem is the most serious, because it causes the first two, a million times over each year in America, and seems all too commonplace here in real NEO.

An Appeal from Columbus with Serious NEO implications

Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Mon, 02/09/2009 - 20:54.

Below is a heartfelt appeal to those to reach out with their social networks to demand inclusion of key legislation that would curtail regional and state funded programming and could have many negative consequences as a result.  This particular piece of legislation, still up for debate is the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund.  The importance of this particular element is elucidated here for your perusal

"Another step taken toward Breaking the Cycle of Abandonment"... Forward or Backward?

Chart of Cleveland City Council HUD Neighborhood Stabilization Program Spending

This just in, via Cleveland City Council, via Facebook... "Another step taken toward Breaking the Cycle of Abandonment". This is about how City Council has decided to spend our community's $25 million in Federal taxpayer funds from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) - the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development - intended to help our impoverished inner city. You must ask yourself, who decided how your $25,000,000 should be spent here, how did they really decide this, and is this a step forward or backwards?

Clarence E. Van Duzer at Convivium 33

I was very saddened to learn today we lost a great artist, loved friend and family to many, and inspirational Clevelander with the passing of Clarence E. Van Duzer. I knew Van Duzer as a family friend and always was inspired and energized by talking with him, his work, and his approach to life. At our last meeting, at his Convivium opening, in 2006, he was so strong and clear it seemed he would live on forever.

reading a book on a snowy day

Submitted by Susan Miller on Sat, 01/10/2009 - 09:45.

Snow is blowing by my window this morning and I have just watched my neighbor and his 6 year old son dig out their driveway and drive away. I cruised over to cleveland.com to see what is news in NEO... not much.

So I returned to REALNEO and opened a book: REALNEO TOPSOIL - Technology Optimization Platform for Social Organization, Innovation and Learning

Question of the Day: What Are The Odds That The MedCon Is A Con Now?

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 12/31/2008 - 05:06.

Jeff Buster's poll on REALNEO asking "If Peter Lawson Jones immediately withdrew his support for the Medical Mart Convention Center would his public career benefit?" motivated me to spend the time to explore the probability the MedCon is already dead, and our leaders will let us know that when they return from their vacations... and get the nerve. What do you think?

Life may be giving and fulfilling if you are receptive. Consider the tree-top-tree

Perfect Tree

We wanted a real tree for the holiday, this year, but Evelyn and I don't like the idea of growing and cutting down and then transporting and throwing away a tree just for that. The carbon footprint, any way you do it, just seems a waste.

"People want to live in a neighborhood that fights for its neighbors", writes Councilman Cimperman

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 12/21/2008 - 01:15.

Ward 13 Councilman Cimperman was attacked in his Tremont home by vicious forces, which caused him personal harm and made him homeless. His trauma was relatively brief, as Councilman Cimperman is a powerful man with powerful friends and considerable resources at his disposal - it is safe to say he had insurance against his losses and could borrow money at a reasonable interest rate to rebuild.
