‘Something Really Wrong’: Tens of Thousands of Dead Fish & sea gulls Wash Up on Lake Erie Shore

Tens of thousands of dead fish (& sea gulls) are showing up along the shores of Lake Erie, bringing with them a powerful stench and questions over what is behind the deaths. “This is a very substantial fish kill and there’s something really wrong to have a fish die off like this,” Dr. David Colby, the Chatham-Kent medical officer of health, told the Windsor Star. (photo: Ontario Ministry of Environment) The Toronto Star reports that the dead fish were found over the weekend.

Tens of thousands of dead fish, along with dead seagulls, washed up on the shores of Lake Erie on Wednesday afternoon in yet another mysterious mass animal death.

  I wonder how animal populations are faring in our strange world.  I used to band birds in Massachusetts and the trends were never optimistic.  Here is the website that directs folks to the article on the Lake Erie gull and fish kill.  Some kind of sewer release is suspected (this occurred near Toronto) : http://www.commondreams.org/
