I was sincerily praying for Father John for his safety and well-being.  We have been donated to St. Hermans' for a long time.

Maybe the poor man should have been kept in longer for mental examination.  It is not "normal" to stockpile guns.  Who knows what the police pevented by taking away all these weapons.

Maybe Fr. John Henry is suffering from burn out or a major mental meltdown.  He needs help and the first step is a full assesement of his mental health.  I am not saying anything about the good work of this shelter but just about the mental state of Fr. John Henry.  Part of the problem may be the fact that he is not associated with any church and so there is no one watching over him and no accountabily.  His whole situation is very unhealthy.  He is coming into contact with vulnerable people and we don't want to see another cult shoot out here.

"NORMAL" is all a matter of opinion....

For some it's normal to molest family members (incest).

For some, it's normal to overeat and fail to exercise (not healthy with so many medical side effects).

For some, it's normal to cheat on wives with other men (and prayerfully not bring home some incurable disease).

For some, it's normal to gamble away their house payments at the casinos across state lines and pray to make it up next time.

For some, it's normal to beat their wives in front of children...

For some, it's normal to drink in the closets for years on end to the detriment of their livers.

For some, it's normal to smoke cigarettes until their lungs deteriorate beyond the ability to intake & expel oxygen adequately.

For some, it's normal to "pay to play" regarding getting government contracts...

For some, it's normal to "overlook" the corruption that violates the public at large, often times sending quotas to people like "Father John Henry" who "clean up the messes!"

For some, normal is sitting on the sideline to life playing "GOD" and "JUDGING" everyone else's choices without any clue at all or respect for their reasons and rhymes.

For some, normal is stepping all over whoever it takes to climb to the top of career ladders.

For some, normal is caring more about others than for oneself.

For some, normal is believing in others UNCONDITIONALLY is their life's work...

For some, tearing down everyone who doesn't think, act, or believe the same as them-is normal...

Assessing a "NORMAL" requires a great deal of variables, factors, and considerations....

What is NORMAL? Well, I guess for each of us, that NORMAL is something different! 

Father John Henry is a very "rich" soul who you may wish to take a step back from judging and begin to learn about his work. Father John Henry has more experience dealing and addressing the needs of some of the most down and out citizens in our community. Perhaps every case is not perfect, but he provides a sense of "CHRISTIANITY" that is by far beyond most people's scope of understanding. To do that kind of work takes WISDOM, COURAGE, and COMMITTMENT far beyond our average human being's capacity. Moreover, he does it with Love and a smile on his face. I have met Father John Henry countless times throughout the years. His position in our community should be supported, respected, and appreciated.

Guns do not kill people....people kill people with Guns. Judging Father John Henry, criminalizing him for his choice to "collect" a reasonable "collectible item" and undermining his mental capacity for his "associations" and choices is simply a matter of opinion that violates our all American Rights to certain "FREEDOMS". If someone is not "like" us.. then we apparently become their 'critics', their "oversight" committee, and the ones who condemn their existence on earth.

My salute  to Father John Henry for all of his work!  Stand tall and enjoy the blessings that a few individuals are trying to modify in your world. You have rights that should be upheld... Don't allow the bystanders devaluate your work, identity, and love for the vulnerable people.

Preventing this situation from escalating by trying to comprehend differences in human nature & capacity would be a beginning. Understanding the "triggers" and respecting others without projecting your own "normal" idealisms on them is by far another point to be addressed...  It's people who critique, judge, and disturb things that are not adversely hurting anyone that rock boats and create unhealthy environments in their very own community. It's their vulnerable fears full of unnecessary anxiety that really instigate harmful situations. Father John Henry is a very compassionate human being who I am sure would have sat down and discussed these concerns anyone laid out if they had tried to do so in a mature manner. 

I hope that Father John Henry did not lose possession of all of his collection completely. If so, whoever called the police about this scenario just wiped out his retirement....Should they be held liable....? Countless Americans have arsenals of weapons-even in the City of Cleveland. Does that make them criminals? They collect all kinds of weapons, should they all be institutionalized and lose their collections? It's amazing how we criminalize this situation, but don't even begin to criminalize BILLIONS of DOLLARS IN HUD FUNDING WITHIN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND being misappropriated and steered in direct violation of HUD FUNDING PRACTICES!!!! (but of course, I am sure that it's "NORMAL" for all of us citizens in Cleveland Ohio to eat that political garbage!!!!)

Looks to me like more cleansing around Ohio City... if they could just get rid of those homeless it would great for suburban white people there... Cimperman has been effective eliminating the poor in Tremont - Detroit Shoreway is doing a bang-up job cleansing there - Ohio City is getting squeaky clean with the arrival of much gentry - all the projects in the area are being demolished and the land sold to developers - they are connecting their strategic initiatives around the real estate with the best views and downtown access for the cleansed future of Cleveland.

I know many people with as many guns and as much ammo as this man and most don't even hunt. They just like guns and believe they are a good investment, and they are right.

We all know Cimperman is headed for hell for all the harm he causes the poor with his environmental injustices  and the lead poisoning of 1,000s of poor under his leadership (sic.) - so who thinks he would care about taking down some homeless and men of God in the process.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A spiritual leader being investigated by Cleveland police and federal agents should take an extended leave from the monastery and homeless shelter he has run for decades, community activists and other pastors said Monday.

Abbot John Henry of St. Herman's House of Hospitality has not been charged with a crime.

But, with Henry's consent, police last month confiscated 80 guns and hundreds of boxes of ammunition from a home near St. Herman's. On Friday, another 150 guns and tens of thousands more rounds of ammunition were recovered, again with Henry's cooperation, from a Trumbull County farm the shelter owns, Cleveland Safety Director Martin Flask confirmed.

Police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives continue to ask questions. And safety concerns have prompted City Councilman Joe Cimperman and others with close ties to the organization or its Ohio City neighborhood to press for new leadership at St. Herman's.

"The goal is protection of the people who live there and live around there," Cimperman said Monday in an interview. "The goal is preserving the mission and getting to the bottom of what happened, and I don't know how that can be achieved without a leave by the director."

Matthew Nee, one of Henry's attorneys, said the abbot does not plan to step aside at this time. He added that his client has helped law enforcement "at every turn" to locate the guns. Flask said all searches were consensual and that Henry has been cooperative.

"This is somebody who has given 100 percent of his efforts over decades to serve the community," Nee said of Henry, known colloquially as Father John or Father Henry. "He fully intends to continue doing so. But to a certain extent, that might not be up to him."

Cimperman represents the near West Side area that includes St. Herman's, located at West 44th Street and Franklin Avenue. In a statement he released on behalf of a group of neighbors and pastors, including St. Herman's board members, the councilman pledged to help install "a new model for service."

Inspectors from the city's Fire, Health and Building & Housing departments will begin checking today for code violations at the shelter, Flask and Cimperman told The Plain Dealer.

The nonprofit Little Brothers of the Divine Compassion Inc. has operated the monastery and shelter in Cleveland since 1977, records show. At times the organization has claimed affiliation with various wings of the Eastern Orthodox Church. But recent postings on the St. Herman's web site, which has been revised several times since the first guns were found, stressed that the monastery was independent and no longer affiliated with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The Rev. Robert Begin, a lawyer and Catholic priest at nearby St. Colman, is listed as Little Brothers' business agent and an incorporating officer, as well as a member of the group Cimperman spoke for Monday. Begin did not return several telephone calls seeking comment.

Other nonprofits have raised money for St. Herman's in recent years. The tax-exempt Friends of St. Herman's spent more than $81,000 -- mostly in utilities and maintenance -- on the shelter in 2008, the last year for which public Internal Revenue Service filings are available.

Friends of St. Herman's has since disbanded. The head of its replacement, St. Herman's Friends Inc., said last week that he was unsure how much money his group raised in 2010.

"What Father Henry does on his own time, I don't know," Gary Pescatrice said when asked about guns. "It's kind of appalling. Everyone is kind of blown away."

Henry, whose birth name is Peter Schanzenbach, has led St. Herman's since the 1980s.

Police classified their Jan. 28 visit with Henry at a home across the street from the shelter as a crisis intervention.

The police policy manual describes a crisis as a situation where someone "exhibits abnormal mental or physical behavior that threatens the safety of themselves or others but is not a violation of the law." In these cases, police seek a psychiatric evaluation, hospital commitment or both.

An inventory of the 80 guns discovered during that visit lists mostly rifles and shotguns. Nee, Henry's lawyer, declined to comment on how Henry acquired the guns.

Ken Hanson, the legislative chairman of the Buckeye Firearms Association in Ohio, defended Henry's right under the Second Amendment to have the guns.

"There is nothing illegal about owning that quantity of guns," Hanson said. "It's certainly not unusual in the people that I am familiar with."

Cimperman acknowledged that Henry has not been accused of breaking any laws.

"Someone told me, 'Guns are legal.' Of course they are," Cimperman said. "But 200 guns and thousands of rounds of ammo for a homeless shelter? That doesn't pass the smell test."

I lived less than a block from St. Hermans for a year - all good.

The downside of the neighborhood were drunks leaving the area bars after closing and having sex with prostitutes around our house - and killing people and such - all the big problems around there are related to the easy freeway access to the area and bars.
