How do you choose between shelter and a best friend?
This is the impossible decision pet-lovers face when
losing their homes. Since most shelters don't allow
animals, homeless people with pets often elect to stay
on the streets rather than part with their four-legged
companion... a decision that can be dangerous when
the elements become harsh.

I'd rather live with my dog

than with most of the American humans I've met in life

I'd rather live with my dog

Agreed!

Re: the pic... I always *joke* that my little puppy rescue, Valla, came into my life so that the day my healthcare expenses exceed the rest of my financial existance, I'll have warmth, companionship, and protection under the I-90 Bridge on Abbey.

Well, it certainly looks

Well, it certainly looks like the man in the picture agrees with you.  He has chosen his dog over shelter.  I suppose he lacks friends and family to help him or his dog.  Why might that be?  Is it suggestive of other choices the man has made?

I, too, am a "specieist".  I deeply believe that dogs are some of the best people.  However, I've not had your unfortunate experience with regard to "American" humans.  Does that extend to the rest of the species, homo sapien?  Hopefully, you will meet more American humans (as you write) who meet your standards.  You do suggest that a few have, afterall.  Let us know how this works for you.

Cold Climate - warm Canine Connection

Hello Questministries - thanks for sharing the touching photo of the  fellow sitting on the street with his dog in his lap.

The contact of animals (and of course little kids, big kids, etc) has a very powerful, calming, and energizing aura.

There are homes for the elderly, and nursing homes, which have dogs - calm ones for sure - and it is medically accepted that the presence of these animals is medically positive for the clients.

I can see where pets of the homeless are especially important, because the homeless – by definition – don’t have communal, warm, cuddly, protected surroundings – yet, like the rest of us, they have the need to receive affection and be affectionate and caring.

However, some dogs are pretty growley and scary – protecting their “partner” – so I can see why shelters might balk at bringing in animals without any familiarity with them.

It is a tough issue which you bring to our attention…

Why do we have homeless people?

Perhaps the best approach to addressing this issue is asking why we have homeless shelters, and why do we have homeless people in our community?

Through REALNEO we have all been observing one man in our community and his animals violated by those paid by citizens to protect us, adding to the homeless problem. If it is so easy for our leadership to make people homeless, it is surely as easy to make them not homeless.

Perhaps the problem is too much money for the poor going to people who don't care about the poor...

This community protects the wrong humans and the wrong dogs. That is the decision made by our leadership, which is fronted by citizen-paid Cimperman.

I'm not homeless, but that

I'm not homeless, but that picture is so very endearing.  You can just feel the love that man has for his pet.  I have three cats and they each have such different personalities.  One's name is Princess and she truly is a princess.  wants to be treated like a princess.  At night she curls up in my arms just like a little baby and burries her head and covers her eyes to sleep.  Then there is Molly - She's a guard cat - keeps track of anything that moves in and outside the house.  Sambo is just a big lover boy - he picks on the girls - thinks he still can - even though he can't - and is always gettin' his face slapped - and never learns.  But they are my babies - They come and tell me when the food dish is empty - the water bowl needs to be filled - Molly knocks on the door to go in and out - they girls are typical women - they hate each other - and they're all always glad to see me.  So the picture of the man and his dog should be the picture of the day - it says more than words ever could about love.

Wealth

This man, for all his troubles, has honor and is far wealthier than Bernard Madoff and his filthy ilk.

Real Wealth

Carnot, having just lost a great furry companion in life--I would agree.  If just a few of these "smart" people turned their skills around, we ALL might have a better place to call home in NEO.
