outdated...

David L. Broome The one "good" thing about the proposed new school is that nobody will view it as any great loss when it's demolished 50 years or so from now, because the district finds it "outdated" (and we all know that this is exactly what will happen). At that point, people will look at pictures of the classic old JMHS and wonder why the folks in 2012 didn't appreciate the architectural gem they had in the first place.

"Jackson's" plan? This is GCP's plan...just as "Transformation" Plan was GCP's plan...this is an insult to CLE taxpayers. Start showing some accountability. Stop squandering $$ with contract steering that destroys beautiful architecture for dreck and CMSD that destroys community by closed schools on east side demo'd and cleared for "investors" at expense of predominantly African American households.

6TH APPEARANCE AT BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING!
EAST HIGH TECHNICAL SCHOOL AUDITORIUM REVERBRATES WITH CRIES OF INVESTIGATE CITY HALL!

On Tuesday, February 28, 2012 – the SAVE JOHN MARSHALL campaign made the following comments in the auditorium of East Technical High School located at 2439 East 55th Street:

... Good Evening!

Madam Chair, Members of the Board of Education, and CEO Mr. Gordon.

Petitioners of SAVE JOHN MARSHALL campaign have called for:

INVESTIGATE CITY HALL!

For denying due process to the petitioners and determine how Mayor Jackson, Councilman Sweeney, Cleveland Landmarks Commission, Board of Education, and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District not only contravened the democratic process but also worked together to thwart the efforts of over 2,400 petitioners in their nearly 10 -month old campaign to SAVE 80-year old historic JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL!

Our new sign – being seen by Clevelander’s every day – reads:

SAVE JOHN MARSHALL!

INVESTIGATE CITY HALL!

Instead of providing information petitioners need to SAVE JOHN MARSHALL – pending for nearly 6 months – the School District has obtained a permit to demolish our 80-year old historic architectural gem in a 5 to 4 vote rigged by Councilman Martin J. Sweeney (also City Council President) at the January 12, 2012 Cleveland Landmarks Commission meeting.

Two top City Officials (Director of City Planning and Manager of Architecture) – who should be protecting and preserving our heritage – voted for demolition of our architectural gem.

Mayor Jackson has not responded to three requests sent via e-mail and certified mail – Madam Chair – I am a senior citizen – I have to walk 2 miles to mail the letters -- for a meeting to SAVE JOHN MARSHALL. But someone had no problem calling the police to question me when I was demonstrating peacefully outside City Hall’s sidewalk (on February 22, 2012).

Vote rigging at City Hall to demolish an historic building!

Manager of Architecture voting for demolition of an architectural gem!

What is happening to the aesthetic sensibilities of the protectors of our city?

Mayor Jackson not responding to requests for a meeting!

Questioning of a peaceful demonstrator by police outside City Hall!

Our yard signs are being stolen in sweeps. Madam Chair – I have to pay for these signs from my savings.

Why is this happening in Cleveland, Ohio, on an over $50 million construction project?

Always remember: “New school being forced on the community got zero votes and the 5 to 4 vote to demolish historic John Marshall was a rigged vote.”

Note: On this day -- there was a 1 ½-hour demonstration – along Superior Avenue, East 12th Street, along Euclid Avenue to East 20th Street, and then from Euclid Avenue along East 55th Street to the High School.
