Lake Erie LivingSubmitted by lmcshane on Sun, 06/08/2014 - 13:59.
With the Metroparks takeover of our lakefront parks - more and more of us are awakening to the fact that we have been deprived access to this resource for years. How will the real estate machinations in this town between Jacobs, Wolstein, Forest City and other shadow parties affect our access to the lakefront? Whiskey Island is the prize and it has already been announced that Metroparks will take over this park from Cuyahoga County. The Metroparks is set to buy Whiskey Island from Cuyahoga County for $1. The parks system also took over a number of green spaces along the Cuyahoga River, and plans to connect them with bike and pedestrian paths – investing $6.25 million. Plans include linking Whiskey Island by bridge to a network of riverfront trails, Zimmerman said. We have a long history with Whiskey Island, here at REALNEO as Ed Hauser fought for our right to access the only natural stretch of shoreline in Northeast Ohio. For now, I will leave you with some photos recently taken at Edgewater Park. As it stands now, if you want to really be near the water, you have to hit the rocks. Stay tuned.

Franklin Boulevard -LOOK UP!
LOOK UP! I was fortunate to have off last Thurs - probably one of the most beautiful days of our year, so far. I rode my bike and made circuit from my neighborhood via Tremont via West Side Market via Transformer Station via Clinton via Franklin to W. 65th and on to Metroparks Lakefront Park at Edgewater. Here are some images from beautiful, tree-lined Franklin Ave. to help you on this Monday :)
