At the Southwest Citizens Area Council of Ward 3, residents asked questions of the leadership at their recent meeting at GENO'S Bar (3889 West 16th Street)... Some residents were perplexed to see Councilman Cimperman run for the door when they asked about "The Green Campus at the YMCA Building on West 25th?" He said that it was no longer in the works and that they needed to refer their questions to Robert McCall about WHERE WAS ALL THE MONEY THAT THEY BELIEVED THIS ENTITY HAD RECEIVED possibly from grants or other public funds?

Wow....our wonderful Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation has been working hard on behalf of multiple alleged developers and grant seekers...for profit entities with wonderful plans.....

CIMPERMAN......Your referred people to interrogate ROBERT McCALL regarding this entire Entity.... They contacted him to find out that his plans had included putting a women's reentry program at the location which was not supported, putting a women's veteran center there, and also working with the youth and Green Campus project. Apparently this person has been mitigating the all too well known: TARGET ENFORCEMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT LIKE MANY BUSINESSES in that area which are being STEERED OUT OF CLEVELAND because our political regime does not like their plans. (The GALLO GAS STATION OWNER ACROSS THE STREET GOT SO TIRED THAT HE CLOSED DOWN HIS BUSINESS!!!!)

So, are we going to support this project or are we going to keep shoving business investors out of Cleveland???? Apparently politics are at play in this scenario....and it's about time that we bring this discussion to the table before another business investor is violated by community development and council politics.

Please explain why you are or are not supporting this investment???????

IF THIS IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ENTITY...THEN IT SHOULD BE GIVEN TAX EXEMPT STATUS FOR ALL THE PROPERTY TAX ARREARS.

The Green Campus Facility will provide creative solutions to urban problems by introducing aquaculture, urban farming, solar and wind energy. As a partner of the Green Campus, SOS will provide on-site supportive housing for women in transition.

"Developer seeks plan for recreational use of former West Side YMCA
At its May 25th Meeting the Franklin Clinton Block Club discussed the proposal by developer James Sosan to offer use of the former West Side YMCA’s gym, pool and locker room to the community. Block Club Chair Bill Merriman said Sosan, who recently purchased the building from the YMCA, offered the use of those facilities if the community could come up with an operator.

At an earlier meeting of the block club, block club members and some former members of the Save the Y Committee discussed possible operators for the facility. Some of the proposals included asking the Boys and Girls Club to run the facility or hiring former YMCA director Mike Hudek to run the recreation area as part of a private club. Merriman says he recently learned from the developer that he would need an answer soon as to what their plans are. Merriman says Sosan told him his funders want a plan as to what he will do with the remaining parts of the facility. Merriman said Sosan told him he must get a commitment within the next three months on the operation of the recreational portion of the facility or come up with another plan for that portion of the building.

According to an April 3rd article by Stan Bullard in Crain’s Cleveland Business “New to the Neighborhood: Developer lands former West Side YMCA, plans condo, townhouse revitalization”, Sosan plans to build condos in the YMCA facility and townhouses on the grounds. The Crain’s article said the YMCA building and adjoining lot were purchased by Sosan through a company called Franklin Lofts Condominium, LLC for $550,000 on March 20th. The article notes that Sosan previous development experience includes the Metro Loft apartments on Scranton and the Detroit Lofts at 2820 Detroit Avenue." It was used by a lot of people in the neighborhood around the Franklin location. The pool and the gym was a gift for the arthritic and athletic alike. The one on Pearl is huge but I don't recall if it had a pool and gym.

Leaders of the debt-ridden YMCA of Greater Cleveland announced Tuesday they will close their Brooklyn branch by year's end and put their expensively renovated downtown branch up for sale.

The Y will continue its usual recreational and educational programs downtown, leasing the facilities on the building's lower floors. But it will stop programs at Brooklyn unless it can borrow space nearby for a few of them.

Also, it will probably have to oust occupants of Brooklyn's 48 apartments...

The Greater Cleveland YMCA has closed or transferred five branches that were losing money in the past seven years. YMCA officials on Tuesday announced they will sell or close the Brooklyn branch and put the downtown branch up for sale. The Y has 10 other branches.

Here is the Y's financial stability plan:

* Downtown - Sell the building at 2200 Prospect Ave. to eliminate a $5.5 million debt. Residents in the 148 apartments will remain. Lease back space to continue programs, such as pool, gym, etc., as a downtown branch. The 152,390-square-foot building, with 2,401 members, was built in 1911 and renovated in 1998.
* Brooklyn - Sell or close the building at 3881 Pearl Road. Residents in the 48 apartments would probably have to move. The branch, with 60,000 square feet, was built in 1955 and has 959 members.

History of Y closings in the past decade:

* Cleveland Heights - Branch closed in 1999. Bought by Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library.
* Centerville Mills Camp - Sold in 2003 to Bainbridge Township.
* West Side Branch - Closed in 2004.
* Miles Avenue Branch - Ownership transferred to city of Cleveland in 2004.
* Glenville Branch - Ownership transferred to Wilson Military Academy in 2005.

I don't believe that Frank Giglio was given this much lee-way. He certainly wasn't given any city dollars/grants to help him out.

I guess it's all in who you know and who's pocket you're feelin' around in.

and like he's being faced with challenges just like many others including target enforcement and much more.....

It's possible he's another business investor who has bought a piece of property that was tied up in a "COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 2020 VISION PLAN"... and now that he's in the mix...the CDC's cannot do what they had originally planned..... So, they are backdooring him to get rid of him from the community.....at least that's my reception...... Feel free to call him direct...... see for yourself..... good article for the PP.
