Throughout the neighborhoods of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights, volunteers have begun to monitor the quality of our local waterway, the Doan Brook. People are rolling up their sleeves, donning hip-waders and delving into the brook’s substrate in search of aquatic insects for a myriad of reasons. Some wish to take individual action to augment data that isn’t collected by local and regional agencies. Others find it a meaningful and educational way to spend time with their children.
