Friday the 13th may bring bad luck but The Gallery at Gray's is bringing great art to Cleveland tonight with the opening of a new show Aftermath: Works by Chris Zahner.

The Gallery at Gray's is located in Gray's Auctioneers, on Cleveland's Westside. It is a great space if you have not seen it -- one especially designed for exhibiting art. Owner/auctioneer Deba Gray is herself an artist.

Chris Zahner is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Zahner's technique of collaging various printed detritus (advertising, pages from books, hand written receipts and letters) and adding his own drawn and painted elements is very appealing. While his works have an easy, decorative appeal with such things as cute little birdies, skulls and horses they also contain some personal and universal tragic messages. His work should be familiar to many Clevelanders, he has shown at some of our best local galleries including Raw & Co., The Pop Shop, Asterisk and Zygote Press. Most recently he was part of the "All Things Cleveland" show at Asterisk -- one of best and most witty exhibitions here in recent years.

Zahner is also represented in the Progressive Insurance Collection.

Zahner has just moved to Boston -- can't blame him for leaving town. Go to the opening, wish him well and buy his work while you can still afford it.
