Air Quality Advisory Issued for Northeast Ohio

 

Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and July 4, 2010 due to Ozone
Flag and fireworks 

Northeast Ohio - High temperatures this weekend are likely to produce ozone in Northeast Ohio.  An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for the counties of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit.  In addition, there will be some particulate matter formation related to fireworks locally.
 
If you are in a sensitive group, including older adults, children, and those with heart or respiratory conditions, please enjoy your holiday weekend carefully, reducing your effort during the hottest hours.
 
Ozone is formed by emissions from cars, trucks, industry, paints, solvents, lighter fluid, and other volatile (flammable) chemicals.  It is most prevalent during hot, sunny, summer days with low wind speeds.


What You Can Do
1.)  Try lighting your charcoal by building a Charcoal Chimney, instead of lighter fluid.
 
2.)  Mow your lawn with an electric lawnmower, or do it early in the morning or very late in the evening.
 
3.)  In Cleveland, visit the RTA Family Fest on July 4.  And wherever you are, please take public transit to your fireworks.
 
4.)  Don't idle while waiting to leave the fireworks.  Wait a few minutes for traffic to clear.

driving 490 west this afternoon, it looked like a late summer morning - the haze was so thick west of Mittal.

and their chimneys were smOkin'...

wish I'd had my camera.
