Find Gina Dejesus
The film showing attracted a crowd of 200-300 people and was delayed by the large turnout. It was a very moving experience.
Channel 8 and Channel 19 covered the film premiere and directorial debut of Ruben Reyes' documentary. The film's producer, Black on Black representatives and the Cleveland office of the FBI and Gina's father Felix Dejesus all spoke before the film showing.
The evening was especially a tribute to the Dejesus family's determination to find their daughter and every missing child. To me, the over-arching message of the evening was a request for REAL Community. To care and to look out for one another. The film points out that this crime is preventable and that it can happen to any one regardless of income, gender and culture.
I had hoped to hear a more proactive message from law enforcement on ways to prevent the abduction of children into the sex trade in America. But, the film, a heartfelt effort, did not speculate on any of the possible explanations for the disappearance of Gina Dejesus.

Judy Martin - Wall of Sorrows - East Cleveland monument removed
East Cleveland, about the time Mayor Brewer took office, made the decision to raze the building on Euclid - the wall of which building was the Wall of Sorrows mural. As I recall, I asked either Ms. Goggins or Mr. Brewer why the building had to go, and was told that a national steak house franchise - I don't recall the name - wanted the site for a new restaurant.
No new high fat, high calorie, steak service ever materialized.
So the Steak House story was probably just a rationalization for razing the building and removing the bad PR which all those murders and disapearances on the Wall spoke to.
I attended a few vigils at the Wall and met Judy Martin, a major force behind the Wall.
A very unique memorial which should not have been demolished..
The tragedy in many people's lives is way more than we can imagine.
I have a ton of images of the murals and need to get them up on the web...
Samantha Goggins was the council woman who acted as mayor between when Onunwor was incarcerated and Brewer was elected.
