How Does Your Garden Grow Neo?Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Sat, 03/07/2009 - 00:20.
Only a few more weeks until spring planting! I have been working on a planting list over the last few days. The following is what I plan to grow on my urban farm this year. I have grown nearly everything on the list before, but most will be new to my farm in East Cleveland. As you can see from the list, some of the plants will probably not produce this year or they will mature in the coming years, but this is my investment in my home and my city.

Some tax advice from an art historian -- Don't waste your time and money on Turbo TaxSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Sat, 02/21/2009 - 15:53.
I prefer to write about the arts, but my experience the other night has me inspired to blog about online tax programs. This year I decided to try Turbo Tax for my Federal and State tax returns -- it was such a waste of time. I ended up starting over and filing with Free Tax USA.

Artist for all Time: Clarence E. Van Duzer, Rest In PeaceSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 01/31/2009 - 01:22.
I was very saddened to learn today we lost a great artist, loved friend and family to many, and inspirational Clevelander with the passing of Clarence E. Van Duzer. I knew Van Duzer as a family friend and always was inspired and energized by talking with him, his work, and his approach to life. At our last meeting, at his Convivium opening, in 2006, he was so strong and clear it seemed he would live on forever.

New Biz in TremontSubmitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 01/17/2009 - 22:52.
Check out Suki Yume in Tremont. This is my tenant and she just put the finishing touches on her business... beautiful, new sign... window stickers... address numbers (finally) installed. Paula is drawn to Asian Ball Joint Dolls (or ABJD) because of their beauty and unique customization. You can take a blank doll and paint your own face, change the hair, change the eyes... make it your own. Tremonts artistic base makes this shop a perfect fit.

Thurday Night at The Cleveland Orchestra: a Sublime and Challenging EveningSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Fri, 01/16/2009 - 01:50.
The arctic wind chill made for an interesting evening and it seemed an appropriate night to listen to Richard Strauss's "An Alpine Symphony." I don't recall ever seeing the orchestra crowd dressed so casually. Many audience members chose to wear boots, pants and sweaters rather than heals, dresses, suits and ties. The program of Ligeti, Debussy, Bartok and Richard Strauss was one of the most stimulating I have ever heard the Cleveland Orchestra play. The four pieces were loosely tied together under the theme of the elements, mainly earth, water and air. ( categories: )
