Anne Trubek for Good Magazine - Civic leaders and artists are coming up with some interesting ideas, and often the line between the two groups is blurred. The perfectly-named Unreal Estate Agency in Detroit is aimed at showcasing “new types of urban practices (architecturally, artistically, institutionally, everyday life, etc) that came into existence, creating a new value system in Detroit,” including helping people purchase and rehab a home for under $5,000.

Lincoln High School areaSubmitted by ward14resident on Fri, 08/21/2009 - 20:02.
The area around Lincoln High School, in Cleveland, Ohio, near Meyer Avenue did not have as much trash thrown about today, August 21, 2009 as it did on Sunday, and I was happy to see the improvement. Someone must have been out there cleaning the area. I was able to recruit my husband and my son to help me pick up trash in the area. We removed about a garbage bag and a half of trash from the area. The parking lot of Lincoln West had a lot of broken glass on the pavement, and weeds were growing around the lot. Not a pretty site for a public school prope

After years of decline, Cleveland aims to go greenSubmitted by Eternity on Sat, 08/15/2009 - 14:26.
CNBC - Orchards and vineyards may soon spring from the blight of thousands of abandoned buildings in Cleveland, a city struggling to rise from years of decline and home foreclosures. Once a proud manufacturing powerhouse, Cleveland has lost nearly 10 percent of its population since 2000, the fastest drop of any U.S. city except for hurricane-hit New Orleans.

My sister-in-law is studying ESL this summer in Parma, and we happened upon Sittoo's, a "faster food" branch of the Aladdin's Eatery chain, only more affordable. We've been going there weekly (or more) all summer long and haven't been disappointed! Full Article. ---------> more

Kate... Your remarks sounded more like a backhanded compliment than actual accolades to the neighborhood who worked hard to make a beautiful & colorful green space. If you expect the best from people sometimes you will get it!!

NELSON CINTRON JR Responds to Debbie Webb's ConcernsSubmitted by Nelson Cintron Jr on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 16:36.
Dear Debbie Webb, Enclosed are my responses to your questions. Hi Nelson, thanks again for coming on the site. Please take a moment and address some of these issues raised: 1) Rick worked for and with you, both as a paid assistant and unpaid campaign staffer. Do you think that his communist affiliation is an issue in the W. 14 race? If so, why?
Nelson Cintron Jr explains ULA Funding for City of ClevelandSubmitted by Nelson Cintron Jr on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 15:39.
During my term, while some residents were getting 15 year City of Cleveland tax abatements for building New Houses; I wanted to give something back to our other residents of Ward 14 for their long term investment within our community. It was my objective to promote a plan that benefited the needs of our residents at all levels.
Ward 14: Clark Metro Development CorporationSubmitted by ANGELnWard14 on Fri, 08/07/2009 - 20:36.
All old leadership of Clark Metro are GONE! It has been gone for well over a year...have any of you even attempted to participate that live in Ward 14 since then? NO! I can tell you, because your names are not on the meeting sign in sheets! In April there was an annual meeting to clean the slate, elect an entirely new BOD, and invite community participation. Less than 20 folks out of almost what, 30,000 showed up.

Ward 14: The Political Wall.... Posting 3....Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 05:10.
Tonight I visited the wall again and made a couple changes. I'd like to whitewall it this week and start fresh... Despite my opinions and views on the candidates, it's my goal to get these complacent citizens to get involved!!! After dealing with a few issues tonight from over 10 folks...lit up like the Fourth of July on God Only Knows What....who have NO CLUE as to any of the politics...I guess I find myself wondering what all this passion to make a change is worth?
one question to each Ward 14 candidate:Submitted by SickandTired on Wed, 08/05/2009 - 19:54.
I live in what will be the new ward 14 and although I always voted and paid attention to what was going on in my ward (15) I was not one to be overly vocal.

Social Media – Risks and Rewards, even for the MilitarySubmitted by Kevin Cronin on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 13:22.
The US Marine Corps decision to ban social media, citing concerns for operation and mission security, is an issue every employer wrestles with, but banning social media is on excessive response, one that forfeits important value for social media, including military recruiting. Employers, military or otherwise, should develop fine-tuned policies on social media, not comprehensive bans or unqualified endorsements.
NELSON CINTRON JR Supports Residents' Wishes & Rights with ODOT Barrier WallsSubmitted by Nelson Cintron Jr on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 12:44.
I would like to take the time to give you my opinion on the noise barrier walls in Tremont and the West 25th & Denison Ave. areas. It is pretty clear to me in reading the blogs that residents that I have worked with in the past in Tremont- do not want to see walls installed in that neighborhood.
I have had many conversations with residents in the area of West 25th to Denison, while I have been listening to their concerns regarding the lack of representation they have received over the last four years.
Ward 14: GET EMPOWERED: VOTE ON TUESDAY, SEPT 08, 2009...Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 03:15.
So many citizens have not got a clue about what's going on in politics. They don't want to know. They don't pay attention. They don't feel inspired to participate because they see so much corruption of the leadership on the news. The folks who were poised to leave, mostly have left. The few brave, loyal, and tenacious citizens who've stuck around for the duration have watched their quality of life in this community be abused, neglected, and violated by public officials through gerrymandering, redirection of public funding, and neglect of our people's needs.

ATTENTION REAL NEO: ESPRIT DE CORPS! 1) Everyone has absolutely awesome input! 2) I think that we have all found our voices here...and better than that...we found people who know, expect, want and are willing to work to overcome the history of our Ward's gerrymandering, CDBG funding issues, and the total neglect we have experienced under Joe Santiago.
Ward 14: The Political WallSubmitted by ANGELnWard14 on Sun, 08/02/2009 - 15:26.
Over coffee this morning, a young man told me that "he was making a political statement by NOT VOTING!" That's sad that folks feel so disempowered that they have withdrawn their votes and have conceded to the powers that be...without a fight!!! I will be painting over the wall this week... Anyone with paint donations may contact me directly!!! Thanks for sharing your political awareness with others so that our voters may have all the information available to them to make powerful decisions!
