Get a new set of rascals in. Make them fear we the people will vote them out if they do not act in our interest, instead of making those who donate to their campaigns happy! And pay close attention in case the vote is rigged.

Two Letters: Nagin vs. Ward14Watcher

Dear friends and neighbors,

 
As a fellow resident of Ward 14, I am sure you share with me great concern about the deteriorating conditions in our community: the persistence and spread of vacant and abandoned houses, the pothole ridden streets, the break-ins, burglaries and other drug-related crime.  Most of all, there is no plan or vision to get out of this mess and the Councilman who has been in office for the past eight years does not seem able to work constructively with either the Mayor or The Council leadership.  They call him "untrustworthy" and he seems more comfortable flying off to China, India or hanging out with the "Occupy" groups camping in Public Square, than dealing with the problems of ordinary residents of Ward 14. "He doesn't return calls and we never see him," is the constant complaint.
 
But it doesn't have to be this way and we now have a once-in-four-years' chance to make a dramatic change for the better. I urge you to help elect Janet Garcia as our next Councilperson. She is a Democrat and has the official endorsement of the Cuyahoga County and Ward 14 Democratic Party.  She also has the endorsement of Mayor Frank Jackson, who is expected to be re-elected  and is anxious to continue a stable city government without the layoffs, cuts in services and fiscal crisis that have hit Detroit and so many other cities. The Mayor wants Janet Garcia on the team to strengthen his ability to lead us out of this difficult economic time and improve life for the people of our ward and city.
 
He also knows that, far more than any candidate in this race, Ms. Garcia has the ability to unite and involve the Hispanic community -- 42 per cent of Ward 14 --- to help make the progress we all need. Ms. Garcia would be the first Hispanic woman ever to serve in our Council.  She has close ties with the Hispanic churches and worked for eight years for the Catholic Diocese in the "Welfare to Work" program.  She served as a volunteer for an additional 10 years in social service agencies directly impacting Ward 14. She raised four wonderful children as a single mother and knows first hand the challenges facing the hard pressed residents, especially the women, of our community. She is also a successful small business owner of an insurance agency servicing many of our residents.  
 
As a disclaimer, I must add that Ms. Garcia has asked me to serve as her Executive Assistant if she is elected. I held that position for over seven years under a previous councilman and was recognized by both the residents and the media for my success in handling some 40,000 complaints. I look forward to being back on the job, renewing ties with our wonderful residents  and working closely with them on the immediate problems in our neighborhoods. 
 
Once again, please vote in the Sept.10 primary and help make history by electing Janet Garcia as our next Councilperson.

Dear friends and neighbors.
 

As a fellow Ward 14 resident, I recently received an email from Mr. Rick Nagin regarding a candidate that he is supporting for Cleveland City Council, Ms. Janet Garcia.  Upon reading this email, I decided that I would delve into her candidacy and do my own research on her seeing how she wants to represent us on City Council.
 

I was truly shocked and surprised when I started to research her and what I found was very disturbing.  I would first like to start with some things that Mr. Nagin forgot to mention about Ms. Garcia, most notably, her criminal record.  I understand that some people make mistakes in  life and deserve second chances however, her past and recent criminal behaviors can not be ignored.  In 1994, Ms. Garcia was arrested for POSSESSION OF COCAINE and eventually  pled GUILTY to DRUG ABUSE, was sentenced and served a probationary period.  Most recently - currently - Ms. Garcia has been indicted on a Felony ASSAULT on a Police Officer.  She has an arraignment scheduled before Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for September 16th.  The other person who has been charged in that case, Emilio Nunez, has a Felony DRUG TRAFFICKING OFFENSE in 2011.  Ms. Garcia indicated in an interview that she has changed her life around and 'surrounds herself with positive influences'.  Is associating with a known Drug Trafficker a positive influence?  Are these the same individuals who will be hanging out with her if elected?
 

In his email, Mr. Nagin indicated that Ms. Garcia has received the endorsement of the Democratic Party.  Good - because with her criminal background, she will be with the rest of the machine - in jail.  I tried to find her past involvement with the Democratic Party prior to this race and could find nothing that she has done politically on either the local, state or national level.  I could be mistaken but, the only thing I could figure out was that she is a friend to the ward leader.  It looks like the same old song and dance from the party, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.  
 

Here is a fact:  Ms. Garcia can run for office, Ms. Garcia can win this election, however, if convicted of a FELONY, Ms. Garcia CAN NOT take the seat as a Councilperson.  The sitting body of Cleveland City Council would then appoint a Councilperson for Ward 14.  I do not know about you however, I want US, the voters of Ward 14 to be able to elect our own representative, not City Council.  Now, Ms. Garcia may go to trial or be founf not guilty of this however, that is not a chance that I want to take.
 

Mayor Frank Jackson, according to Mr. Nagin, wants Janet Garcia on City Council.  He wants her to be a part of his team.  Yes, the same Frank Jackson who hired a sex offender and currently has a City Council who 1) has an ex-felon serving (only after receiving a pardon from then Democratic Governor Strickland) 2) has a convicted drunk - driver who will be serving time in jail and 3) has a Council President who cost the tax payers over $60,000 for his flirting ways and has been linked to the County corruption.  Yes, Mr. Nagin - I can see why Mayor Jackson would want Janet Garcia to serve on City Council, with those individuals, she will fit right in.
 

I can see why Mr. Nagin wants Ms. Garcia to be elected.  Ms. Garcia has promised Mr. Nagin a job as her assistant.  With all do respect to you Mr. Nagin, I understand that you have had some serious health issues in the past and at 73, maybe your best days would be better served spending time with your family and friends, fishing, vacationing or sitting at home, relaxing and writing again for your Communist newspaper. 
 

The voting primary is this Tuesday September 10th.  There are three other candidates running for Ward 14 - Brian Cummins, Brian Kazy and Nelson Cintron.  I highly encourage every voter to due their homework on either of the other three candidates in the race and vote for who will be the best person to represent Ward 14.  I did my homework.

ANY candidate endorsed by Frank Jackson is more of the same politics we endured under Joe Santiago.  

I don't appreciate that I received an anonymous email, but
I do happen to believe that residents are entitled to know information that has not been posted with regard to every candidate.
