Northeast Ohio is a cultural destination - DESPITE our insane local govt and mediaSubmitted by lmcshane on Thu, 06/15/2017 - 07:43.
Collectors from all over the world come to Cleveland - the recent Glasco show at Wolf's Gallery in the Larchmere neighborhood and Daniel Kelly exhibit at the Verne Gallery in Little Italy are must-see locales. Tregoning and Co. and Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery at 78th Street Studios are major tourist destination for art lovers and collectors.
How do we capitalize on this amenity with accommodations and local travel plans, especially with the upcoming FRONT International?? Photo above is a detail from : At the Villa Borghese, 1876 http://wolfsgallery.com/artists/lorenzo-valles

CLE's "elite" are missing the boat
An important event in the Cleveland art scene occurred recently at Wolf's Gallery. With standing room only at the opening reception, the gallery unveiled 63 works by Joseph Glasco from the estate of Stanley J. Seeger Jr. of London. Additionally, a number of Glasco works from the David Chesler Collection were on view. Michael Raeburn, Glasco's London biographer, and Marilyn McCully, internationally esteemed scholar and Picasso expert, were present to discuss the artist and his works as well as the relationship between Glasco and Seeger. Representatives from out-of-state museums and major collectors were also present.
Glasco's career began in New York in 1949 and extended into the 1980s. He was in the inner circle of Jackson Pollock, Jean Dubuffet and other important artists. Glasco's works have been acquired by many major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, Corcoran Gallery, Guggenheim, Whitney and the Hirshhorn. Given the national importance of the artist and his work, it is curious and disappointing that the Plain Dealer was not present to cover the opening. The good news is that the exhibit will be on view through the end of June.

My photos from two recent art adventures
I can't post a lot of photos here at REALNEO since I have maxed out my quota - recently, a friend and I spent a delightful day in Little Italy and the Larchmere Arts District. Both areas feature art hotspots.
We also attended the opening of Serial Intent at the Akron Art Museum. The curatorial staff (no doubt the amazing Liz Carney) wrote up a great explanation for the logic of the show in CANjournal.
