Arts and CultureNow this is a team Clevelanders can really fight for, and real NEO can really love! Go Sansai!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 05/12/2010 - 02:06.
The ICEarth Welcome Wagon stopped by Sansai Environmental Technologies this weekend to tour the world's largest indoor vermitechnology facility and meet Cleveland's greenest, meanest, fighting machine - the 60 million worm team bringing the world "Magic Dust". See Sansai for more information on their amazing processes and products... here are some pictures of their crib, right in the heart of South Collinwood - Cleveland - Ohio.

SAVING SANSAISubmitted by Keith Winston on Mon, 05/10/2010 - 18:51.
Today I walked through one of the most exciting plants in the Collinwood community. and I learned that this plant is for health, and I saw some of the most interesting things. And seeing the product that this company produce is incredible. This company is producing something that is good for us all, and also trying to create jobs for the community, and as needed how cool is that.

The Ruins of East ClevelandSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Sun, 05/09/2010 - 23:55.
An old brick garage, the roof long ago collapsed, shards of glass remain in the broken widows. Trees over grown, the remains of a cultivated flower bed by the side door of a house. Plants grow in cracks in the driveway. A slow return to nature.

Go Cavs, But Your Advertising On Our Landmarks Must Go. This is not art or culture, and is ugly!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 05/08/2010 - 23:22.
In 2006, Gen-X Consultant Rebecca Ryan came to Cleveland to speak at the City Club and lead some roundtable discussions (hosted by realNEO) on making this region more desirable to the global Generation-X population. She was working on Gen-X planning in Akron and Canton and proposed to the City of Cleveland some collaboration with her regional efforts - she was suggesting to brainstorm very openly at very little cost to the city. Her outreach received the cold shoulder here. The last time I remember communicating about this was with Chris Ronayne, then with the city of Cleveland, and I was basically told the development people were too busy trying to close a Nike Cavaliers advertising deal to bother with Rebecca Ryan's proposal - the city economic development resources were too focused on Cavaliers advertising to care.
"Yes, Jimmy Dimora deserves the privilege of being considered innocent until proven guilty"Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 05/07/2010 - 08:29.
I may hate old time politics, but I love this video - thanks Channel 5 - found on the Cleveland.com website. According to a poll on realNEO, "Does Jimmy Dimora deserve the privilege of being considered innocent until proven guilty?", 63% voted "Yes, Jimmy Dimora deserves the privilege of being considered innocent until proven guilty".

See map: Google Maps Today we hope to determine the answer is yes ICEarth Should Be Developed In Real NEOSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 05/05/2010 - 08:00.
About two months ago I asked the question: Should ICEarth Be Developed In Real NEO Or Elsewhere In The World? In general, the response has been to develop here, and a Strategic Technology Analyst for the Cuyahoga County Department Of Development has asked for a brief overview of my development plans for the activities I propose for Cuyahoga County to help make Northeast Ohio

Video of the Day: "Sing Out" - Charlie Mosbrook... soon touring LakewoodSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 05/03/2010 - 19:28.
Friends of Charlie Mosbrook (seems nearly everyone in Cleveland) have been concerned for his sudden health issues this year, and gladdened to see him back up, around, and performing stronger than ever. Featured above is a video from Charlie's website - inspiring, as is all his work - and he has many events upcoming - two in Lakewood may interested realNEO readers (we have lots of traffic in Lakewood)...

Vote for Issue 15 and the future of this great region - vote for the heart of it allSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 05/03/2010 - 05:00.
Over the next 8 months, Cuyahoga County must remake itself, in designing and preparation for an entirely new government - that is a challenge of epic proportions under the best of circumstances, and this is happening under the worst of circumstances for nearly all in Cuyahoga County. While our nation may be rising out of recession, parts of Cuyahoga County reside in states of true economic depression.

Rafael Viñoly Flowers For Real, as Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion Really BloomsSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 05/01/2010 - 16:02.
I was driving through one of my favorite neighborhoods in the world yesterday and noticed a rare and important thing has taken bloom there - in University Circle - this Spring - Phase II of the Cleveland Museum of Art expansion is already visible and suddenly the seemingly-boxy, incomplete Rafael Viñoly transition has taken new bloom - and a roof. Just some I-beams so far... ?!?! Not at all.

NEW Rocket From The Tombs of the Day: "I Sell Soul"Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 22:25.
I was watching the Pere Ubu "We Have The Technology" video over and over today and I was thinking why doesn't everyone in NEO appreciate David Thomas like they appreciate LeBron James. Not in tennis shoe sponsorships, but with pride and celebration. Do area residents realize the king of ubu projex is from Cleveland and still makes this his home court? Very few places in the world may make such an important claim to modern cultural significance, and David Thomas is in his prime.

Yesterday, before falling into a fever-induced sleep--some 24-hour flu bug--I meant to look up the words to this song. We've had some awfully beautiful days here in NEO. It's worth remembering: O beautiful for spacious skies,

Another Issue I Support To Bring Funding To The IT Sector in NEO - Yes on Issue 1Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 13:58.
While I have never considered Issue 1 - the Third Frontier - offered me direct opportunity, as an Information Technology entrepreneur I do recognize this relatively low-burden, low-exposure state funding offers great opportunities for many other important technology initiatives across Ohio. The results are well documented by the well organized supporters of Issue 1 - see their message posted below - and I certainly expect this will pass by a large majority (if not, I will be shocked). Assuming this passes, I'd like to see changes in the processes for how Third Frontier money is used in the future, as I believe all our processes in the state and region must become brighter and greener. But we can't try to accomplish that without this funding being available for the technology sector. I'll vote for Issue 1, and then become active making sure the money has as great an impact as possible - results so far provide a good foundation. I recommend you do the same... see the official story below:

City of East Cleveland Website Returns to DrupalSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 12:14.
I noticed a few days ago that the City of East Cleveland website is now a Drupal site. It is a big improvement from the most recent previous website, which looked more like the website for an Eric Brewer fan club than a city website. It is a good start to improving IT in East Cleveland -- now lets get more citizens online!
NEO Leaders Speak Of Driving New Economy Growth - Since November, 2008, real NEO Has Grown Like This!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 10:38.
I've been asked what our traffic looks like over time, so I pulled a few quick charts of the number of visitors to realneo since we started using Google Analytics, and what they have visited, to measure performance of this site - and we've grown by pretty much all counts I've considered important by 30-100% since then - in some cases by 1,000s% - in less than a year-and-a-half.

I guess it is time to get serious about politics, for real NEO and OhioSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 06:00.
I just received an email about the Governor's race - Strickland is running against ex-Lehman Brothers Managing Director John Kasich. Strickland released his tax returns today - putting his last decade of returns on open file - and it seems Kasich has not agreed to release his last decade of returns. I though that was requred by law. This should be enforced or required as soon as possible.

update on property development around treehouseSubmitted by tremontsoul on Wed, 04/28/2010 - 00:58.
To maintain the integrity of the streetscape as planned since 2002(rather then put a tar surfaced parking lot in the center of the main district) and encourage neighborhood, city and local businesses involvement until a more feasible development can be economically sustained, we're proposing the use of the property as an urban garden and sculpture garden. This would create a visually appealing sustainable green scape and positively enhance tremont, which does not include allowing the variance.
