MAYOR JACKSON - A MAYOR FOR THESE TIMES?

Submitted by Roldo on Mon, 07/20/2009 - 18:44.

Sometimes you try to put people into boxes they don’t fit into. Mayor Frank Jackson is one of those people difficult to place. At least for me.

Challenging a Store in Ward 14 to Clean Up the Area

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Mon, 07/20/2009 - 00:14.

I pulled into a local store parking lot with weeds that were like 3 feet tall right next to the sidewalk, looking like tumbleweed and large enough to hide a person... kind of dangerous is what I thought... So, I made it my mission to ask the store manager to come outside for a brief discussion-out of the listening distance of others.

Cross-posted in Brewed Fresh Daily

The evidence is accumulating that Cleveland's economic development strategy does not work very well.

(Here, we are talking about the 5 county Cleveland metro region: Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina and Lorain counties: population about 2.1 million.)

An East Cleveland Ward 2 Reality Story. Don't Think This Insanity Will Stop In The Ghetto.

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 07/19/2009 - 04:55.

Late on the 4th of July, there was a big fight in my neighborhood. Thankfully, I wasn't there. A friend who was there described it as around 100 people - some from East Cleveland and some from Cleveland - who just plain wanted to fight. No gang or drug issues - no girl in the middle - just a bunch of people so stressed and freaked out by life that they needed to pound somebody. On that night, those folks settled for pounding each other, and little harm was caused.

The Plan For Decades Has Clearly Included Casinos, Which Changes Everything For Real NEO

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 07/19/2009 - 03:49.

In observing what has been planned for major infrastructure and private developments and strategic investment initiatives in the Greater Cleveland Area, with a focus on high dollar, high roller plans for downtown Cleveland and especially the lake and river fronts, when there are no current economic indicators projecting high income growth in Cleveland or the region, my only conclusion is that the "smart money" has been riding for a long time on the easy money of driving casino gambling downtown, in a big way, in the near future.

REFLECTIONS OF A RESIDENT....

Last night, Friday July 17, 2009 at approximately midnight I was a rear passenger of a car driving down West 25th with Nelson Cintron Jr and his daughter, and my daughter, when a woman stumbled across the street trying to cross from the Applewood Center (Jones Home) to the other side. As she reached the median, she was losing her balance as we passed. Recognizing her distress, we slowed, only to watch her stumble head first to the ground directly next to the car behind us.

In Progress

Submitted by lmcshane on Sat, 07/18/2009 - 14:05.

What a wonderful day for a bike ride.  The All Access Fair is in progress right now.  Try to get there, if you can, to enter the raffle for some great local prizes like Honey Hut and Gentiles gift certificates!

Lois Moss and all the organizers deserve a hearty round of applause.  It also helped that Mother Nature cooperated to give us a beautiful day after last night's torrential storms.

RTA TAKES US FOR THE WRONG RIDE

Submitted by Roldo on Sat, 07/18/2009 - 13:06.

Is RTA taking us on another ride? As a transit system, it seems more like a servant of the same old special interests when it should be taking care of transit-dependent citizens.

Celebrating Walter Cronkite, the most trusted man in America

Submitted by Eternity on Sat, 07/18/2009 - 10:17.

Max Etenrity - As the world mourns the loss of Walter Conkrite, perhaps America's greatest journalist, many are reflecting on the life and legacy of a man who truly set the standard of reporting excellence.  Mr Cronkite, who was fondly dubbed "Uncle Walter" by viewers and listeners, was so relied upon to tell the unvarnished truth about the US Government and international affairs that he was sometimes casually referred to as "the most trusted man in America."   But he was not particularly popular with everyone, especially politicians, including P
