The Air-Conditioning Debate -- Hotter than I ThoughtSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Mon, 07/26/2010 - 00:48.
How did you spend these past few scorching days? Like Agricultural Scientist Stan Cox and his wife I spent them without air-conditioning, not necessarily comfortable but accepting of the weather. Stan Cox was interviewed recently in the New York Times about his views on reducing our dependence upon air-conditioning. I was surprised to learn that Mr. Cox has received death threats for these views! See No Air-Conditioning, and Happy by Susan Saulny

Site Survey for MCCO Powerplant and Green City Blue Lake Institute RelocationsSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 07/19/2010 - 13:40.
As shall be made abundantly clear before August 10, 2010, when "EPA Hosting Public Hearing to Discuss Citizen Concerns Over MCCO University Circle Coal Powerplant Permit Renewal", over 20 major University Circle institutions including Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals and the Cleveland Natural History Museum - home of the "sustainability"-oriented "Green City Blue Lake Institute" - are connected to utility services provided by the Medical Center Company, which burns coal in the heart of a residential community of University Circle, bordering East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and the Little Italy neighborhood of Cleveland. Burning coal causes pollution that kills people and the MCCO coal plant is very old and very dirty - one of the most polluting point sources in Ohio.

Art for TWDC: Woman Walks into Bar - Is Raped by Four Men on the Pool Table - While 20 WatchSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 07/17/2010 - 07:57.
Organized crime means people organizing together to commit crime - like leaders of development corporations, councilmen, the mayor, police and prosecutors, and business owners organizing to violate city laws, ordinances and human rights in Tremont. While the most obvious examples of organized crimes in Tremont have been intentional, collusive, proactive violations of restaurant building, parking, patio, occupancy, handicapped accessibility, waste management, property, health and safety laws and ordinances, recent incidents involving reported gunplay and documented violence by TWDC staff and their friends against Guy Templeton Black prove there is a violent organized crime syndicate in Tremont, willing, able, and happy to inflict physical harm upon the weak.

G Ticket- Option Ticketmaster – Why wait?Submitted by MaxD on Thu, 07/15/2010 - 23:18.
Is G Ticket as an alternative to Ticketmaster just a rumor? G Ticket could possibly be born from fans who have grown tired of Ticketmaster's service fees. Adding to the general public dissatisfaction is the Ticketmaster monopoly--especially after a Ticketmaster merger with Live Nation, the nation's largest concert promoter was approved by the Department of Justice. The company's stranglehold on live entertainment is stronger than ever.
The first rule of the Art Of Surviving Cleveland is PROTECT YOUR DNA!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 07/15/2010 - 13:00.
The first rule of the Art Of Surviving Cleveland is PROTECT YOUR DNA! As reported on realNEO: "what we have learned after sampling and genetically profiling many gull families is that colonies close to integrated steel mills transmit DNA mutations to their offspring more frequently than those at rural sites. In addition, the closer the colony to steel mills, the higher the mutation rate". Further, "Our genetic analyses of environmentally exposed mice revealed that offspring from the steel site inherited nearly double the frequency of DNA mutations compared to their rural counterparts. Clearly, air pollution near integrated steel mills can induce genetic damage. At this time we cannot identify the class of chemical pollutant responsible, but suggest that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, by-products of coal combustion, are a likely candidate." In other words, and further: if you want to live a long, healthy, normal life and perhaps have offspring... DON'T live, work, eat, visit or play near a steel mill or any coal-burning facility... DON'T DO THIS:

Group seeks to decriminalize marijuana in Miami BeachSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 15:12.
Pro-marijuana activists, backed by the director of the `Cocaine Cowboys' documentaries, are pushing to decriminalize marijuana in Miami Beach BY DAVID SMILEY dsmiley [at] MiamiHerald [dot] com Miami Beach voters could cast ballots for Mary Jane come November should a budding effort to decriminalize marijuana possession in the city gain traction. In front of City Hall Wednesday evening, the Committee for Sensible Marijuana Policy announced a drive to gather signatures in support of a proposed amendment that would make ``personal'' possession of marijuana in Miami Beach a civil code violation punishable by a mere fine. ``We're empowering local government to deal with this differently,'' said Ford Banister, the group's chairman. Banister hopes to put the proposal before the city's voters in November.

Tip of the Hat and Props to PD's Michael McIntyre - First Reporter to Recognize "A new cash crop" for OhioSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 14:41.
Tip of the Hat and Props to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Michael McIntyre, and his Tipoff column today - First Reporter to Recognize "A new cash crop" for Ohio. I look forward to discussing this initiative in detail with Michael and others in the media and public, as it is important to educate the community on the economic benefits we will receive from "Growing a Bright Green NEO PAC for Legalization & Commercialization of Cannabis Crops, Products & Services". Here is Michael McIntyre's correct and intelligent impression of our initiative to make Northeast Ohio the Open Source Capital of the Brightest Greenest State of Earth:

Happy B Day realNEO EvelynSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 00:00.
It is safe to say the #1 financial and empowering supporter of realNEO is and has always been my wife, Evelyn Kiefer Roulet. A founding member of realNEO (member #7), who has consistently posted some of the most interesting and globally appreciated content, she administers the Putnam Sculpture Colledction at Case (beautifully presented in Drupal), conducts art appraisals, consults in art history - maintains the brightest greenest home and garden in town - all to significantly support our large family so I may focus on realNEO and other regional and global initiatives. She has allowed this flower to grow.

The only thing wrong with Cleveland, he says, is the attitude of some of its residents - "Hot", isn't that!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 06/16/2010 - 11:32.
On June 3, 2010, I reported on realNEO "our air around Northeast Ohio has been unhealthy by most standards every day for the past week, and is never nearly healthy enough" and asked "why the hell was air quality in Cleveland and so Northeast Ohio, the region, the state and the world so "UNHEALTHY" last night, while we slept, and why is it so unhealthy RIGHT NOW - and HOW UNHEALTHY really, where, as indicated above?" The diagrams above and below are actually from today - June 16, 2010 - two weeks later. In checking the same pollution monitoring service of NOACA to see current pollution conditions, I find our regional pollution control house of cards has completely collapsed, with NOACA "near real time" pollution monitoring systems (which should be data driven and perfect) still reporting we had "SEVERE" levels of MP2.5 pollution in Northeast Ohio over the past 24 hours (see line and rose charts at bottom of diagram below) - for many hours reading over 300, leading up to these charts - yet NOACA posting an "OFFICIAL" explanation that "NOTICE: The PM2.5 monitors are experiencing difficulty this week. Data shown is incorrect. Local air agencies are working with the monitors. In addition, high humidity is being reflected. We appreciate your patience."

I paid $.05 extra at Marathon to F***BP todaySubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 06/11/2010 - 18:40.
When I think about it, I always avoided BP before Deepwater - totally do now - they always seemed highest cost with the least local authenticity and creativity of the brands, markets and products. From a personal perspective, I saw them take over SOHIO and do little for the old home town, and then vacate - barely know SOHIO ever existed, yet I think the old HQ is still called the BP building - new BP ownership rejected our Oldenburg, which wound up in a different format and venue, by City Hall - what about them has there ever been to like, from the NEO perspective? That they are British? Our beer is better - they live on a tiny island and try to rule the world - they took over America to try to escape their own pollution and unsustainability in the first place...

Art of the Day: "Grandfather" - Jeff Hulligan - Year of the TigerSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 06/09/2010 - 10:30.
I was entering Cleveland City Hall yesterday and was stopped in my tracks by "Grandfather", by Jeff Hulligan - one of Year of the TIger artworks organized by the St. Clair Superior Development Corporation - this very cool work is sponsored by Councilman Cimperman... the first of the tigers I've come across in town... props where props are deserved. I always enjoy seeing these annual creative arts and culture icons around the St. Clair Superior area. This is the fifth year this CDC has organized this fun, unique authentic arts campaign, previously featuring the years of the dog, pig, rat and ox, described further and linked below.... there are many photos of previous works in this program on realNEO and I'll be keeping my eye out for more tigers around town and share them here... more photos of Grandfather and information on this great program below.
