ClevelandA Winery in Hough?Submitted by Susan Miller on Mon, 01/12/2009 - 17:09.
01/15/2009 - 10:00 01/15/2009 - 12:00 Etc/GMT-5 Note from Mansfield Frazier regarding a winery in Hough: Ward 7's recently-elected representative, Cleveland City Councilman TJ Dow, has asked me to assist him with jumpstarting a project. He would like to explore the idea of situating a first-class winery in the Upper Chester area of the ward, which is immediately adjacent to University Circle, and in the shadow of Cleveland Clinic. Such a facility would tap into the nascent green movement by potentially utilizing grapes grown on the vast expanses of vacant land in Cleveland, while creating employment opportunities for local residents in the areas of wine production, marketing, distribution, equipment maintenance, bookkeeping and a host of other jobs. Additionally, such a facility would become a gathering focal point for community events and other entertainments. Location1854 E. 79th Street

Question of the Day: What Are The Odds That The MedCon Is A Con Now?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 12/31/2008 - 05:06.
Jeff Buster's poll on REALNEO asking "If Peter Lawson Jones immediately withdrew his support for the Medical Mart Convention Center would his public career benefit?" motivated me to spend the time to explore the probability the MedCon is already dead, and our leaders will let us know that when they return from their vacations... and get the nerve. What do you think?
Councilman Polensek Should ResignSubmitted by Kevin Cronin on Mon, 12/29/2008 - 16:03.
I never thought Councilman Mike Polensek was a bad guy, maybe a frustrated, burned out, partially-jaded reformer facing difficult tasks in Cleveland, but not a bad guy. However, in my mind, you can't justify the latest problem involving his asking a local development nonprofit organization to buy a house for him while he secured financing. He can say he gave the nonprofit a modest profit for helping he can say it was only a short-term thing and he can say he only did it for his mom, but....

Greek Town Redux?Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/21/2008 - 08:41.
When I lived in Tremont, and briefly worked at TWDC (long story), there were several machinations under the radar to create an a la Detroit Greektown around the vicinity of the Annunciation Greek Church. Do I have to name the players? Would it be a surprise for any one in Cleveland to discover a moribund and passe development scheme driving demolition in Cleveland? Cleveland knows how to kill night life. Look at the Warehouse District, the Flats...and soon Tremont.

"People want to live in a neighborhood that fights for its neighbors", writes Councilman CimpermanSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 12/21/2008 - 01:15.
Ward 13 Councilman Cimperman was attacked in his Tremont home by vicious forces, which caused him personal harm and made him homeless. His trauma was relatively brief, as Councilman Cimperman is a powerful man with powerful friends and considerable resources at his disposal - it is safe to say he had insurance against his losses and could borrow money at a reasonable interest rate to rebuild.

Tremont Retail - Holiday ShoppingSubmitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 12/20/2008 - 10:33.
I was searching for the request for Tremont retail recommendations and I can't find it this morning, so I'm posting from scratch. While retail is still a tough go in Tremont, we have more establishments now than ever before! Have I also mentioned that if you take a step back and look at the Tremont Entrepreneurs... a big majority are women! Here is a run down of the latest and greatest retail establishments (no offence to the restaurants & pubs, but most are already famous) ;)

Ed had these issues in mind (among numerous others) when he left us. Let's catch up a bit. Can anoyone give an update as to how these questions have been addressed more than a year later? Where was the Cleveland Restoration Society, when their wonks demolished the Historic Giglio FarmSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 12/13/2008 - 13:22.
About the time some wacked-out over-empowered government wonks were demolishing Frank Giglio's Historic Landmark house, on his city-desecrated urban farm, all the "restorationists" in our Society were abuzz about the chance to rub elbows with Timothy "Art Is Back" Rub at the sell-out "36th installment of our Community Luncheon" Cleveland Restoration Society self-love-fest, held last week at Wyndham Cleveland, at Playhouse Square...
dante's restaurantSubmitted by jerleen1 on Wed, 12/10/2008 - 09:24.
I do believe Mr. Dante skipped a step or two - nobody at the Central Block Club - the area in which his establishment is possibly going to reside - has heard from anyone representing this business. No proposals have been submitted. Who's he stroking? Where's he going to park his cars - everybody else has dibs on the spaces already? Why did his fine dining joint not make in the previous place? Inquiring minds want to know?
