Has a book changed your life? If you are a student between grades 4-12, you can win $$$ by writing a letter thanking the author who made a difference in your life.

Letters About Literature Contest begins!
Ohio students (grade 4 – 12), if you have you ever read a book that changed your behavior or the way you thought about something, YOU can win a letter writing contest!

All you have to do is write a personal letter to an author, explaining how his or her work affected you.
The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores and in cooperation with affiliate state centers for the book, invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to enter Letters About Literature, a national reading-writing contest.

To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author explaining how that author's work changed the reader's way of thinking about the world or themselves. There are three competition levels: Level I for grades 4 through 6; Level II for grades 7 and 8, and Level III, grades 9 - 12.
Ohio winners will be announced in early 2009 and their entries forward to the national level judging. National winners will be announced in the spring.

Ohio winners will receive a $100 cash award, a $50 Target Giftcard, a $40 Joseph-Beth Booksellers giftcard, and a year’s membership to the Ohioana Library.

National winners also earn for their school or community library reading promotion grants worth thousands of dollars!

Deadline for this competition is December 6, 2008.
