Ohio’s
13th Congressional District representative since 1992, Sherrod Brown
will discuss his latest book "Myths of Free Trade: Why American Trade
Policy Has Failed," a critical examination of free-trade policies 10
years after the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
A leading progressive voice in Congress, Brown has fought trade
agreements that threaten American jobs, undermine environmental
safeguards and eliminate workplace safety protections. A fierce critic
of NAFTA, he believes international trade agreements should include
protections for workers in America and across the globe, including fair
wages, decent working conditions and the right to unionize.
Brown is the ranking member on the Energy and Commerce Health
Subcommittee and serves on the Subcommittees on Energy and Air Quality
and Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, the House International
Relations Committee, and the U.S. House and Senate Great Lakes Task
Force. The American Public Health Association recognized Congressman
Brown with its Distinguished Public Health Legislator of the Year Award
for 2002.
A native of Mansfield, Brown is a graduate of Yale University and
Ohio State University. He served two terms as Ohio’s Secretary of State
and four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives.
