06.04.05: East Cleveland Mayor Goggins brings vision and insight to town hall

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 06/04/2005 - 22:49.

"It's a new day in East Cleveland" is an expression of East Cleveland
Mayor Goggins that was clearly demonstrated from dawn until dusk
Saturday, June 4th, as the city held a neighborhood clean-up, hosted a
bicycle rodeo for kids, and welcomed residents to the MLK Civic Center,
on Shaw Avenue, for a terrific lunch and a Town Hall meeting to discuss
plans for revitalizing the community.

At City Club 06.03.05: Social Security Reform: The Debate

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 06/03/2005 - 11:20.

The 06.03.05 City Club debate on Social Security reform started on the sidewalks outside the City Club, where many activists opposed to privatization handed out literature and asked passer-by-ers to sign petitions expressing opposition, to be sent to our legislators. Inside the City Club, the audience appears of like sentiment, populating tables sponsored by the AFL-CIO, AARP, and Friends of Sherrod Brown.

Community Technology Centers' Network

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 06/02/2005 - 13:28.

The Community Technology Centers'
Network (CTCNet)
was founded on the recognition that in an increasingly
technologically dominated society, people who are economically
disadvantaged will be left further behind if they are not provided
access to and training on information tools. CTCNet envisions a society
in which all people are equitably empowered with these tools and is
committed to achieving this end.

About the NEO Excellence Roundtable: an ad hoc group of people who care about Northeast Ohio are collaborating to make
NEO the world leader in social computing and openly
strategizing on how NEO as a region may achieve world-class status -
we are establishing benchmarks for success and taking action in pursuit
of measurable outcomes. Current pursuits include bridging the
digital divide in East Cleveland, deploying the optimal social
network for Northeast Ohio, and expanding understanding of the issues surrounding Whiskey Island.

In the interest of supporting open collaboration, we've established a virtual Community Of Interest Link (COIL) called NEO Excellence - please visit at http://neoexcellence.realinks.us. To access the community, you must
create an account using the link found at the home page - or, if you
have an account at another REALinks site... like here at REALNEO... you may log-in with your
username from that site, followed by @ that site's URL (e.g. your username [at] realneo [dot] us), and then enter your password from that site.

Very little critical reporting of economic development is happening in Northeast Ohio -- some may think this a good thing, while others see may see this as a fault in local media.  Roldo Bartimole, former Wall Street Journal and Plain Dealer reporter and a member of the Press Club Hall of Fame, is an exception.  For those interested in reading his reports, I'd like to share this link for alternative reading: ReadRoldo.com or www.ReadRoldo.com .

At City Club 04.27.05 Connie Schultz makes history, knowing "well behaved women rarely make history"

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/28/2005 - 02:02.
The story of Connie Schultz winning the Pulitzer Prize is big news for
Connie, the PD and NEO, which was celebrated on 04.27.05 at the City
Club Forum. But the most remarkable story is that this "voice for the underdog and underprivileged" was raised in Ashtabula, educated at Kent State, and in an independent and uncompromising way quickly ascended from stay at home mom and freelance journalist to the highest ranks of achievement possible in her field.
It is thus truly inspiring to see realized the full potential of individual inspiration
and excellence – this is a realization badly needed in NEO these days…
a message 53 years in the making, and far more telling and
significant than a world series or super bowl championship. Read on…

The REALNEO team is very pleased to anounce new COILs for the City of East Cleveland - http://eastcleveland-org.bryght.net - and their senior citizens department and Helen S. Brown Senior Citizens' Center - http://hsbc.realinks.us.
In each case, these social networks provide valuable virtual services
where there were none, to organizations and people excluded from the
new economy by the digital divide. In launching these initiatives, the REALNEO team has collaborated with many inspiring East Cleveland
community leaders who know and love their community well - in the
process, the REALNEO team has been amazed by how remarkable a place is
East Cleveland. How well do you know your region? Visit http://eastcleveland-org.bryght.net and http://hsbc.realinks.us  to observe much more!
